Missing Bitcoin In Chivo Wallets As El Salvadoran Cry Out On Twitter

Things are getting a little bit more intense in El Salvador, people are complaining their bitcoin is missing from the country’s official bitcoin wallet app Chivo. What could be the reason? This gives the people false impression towards the security and transparency of bitcoin, it also hurts to note that the government has not said anything about it.

Months back after the president announced the country’s decision of making bitcoin the legal tender of El Salvador some of the citizens criticized the decision. They claimed the president is using an authoritative way of ruling them, even on the country’s Independence Day, citizens took to the streets to protest against bitcoin. They even went ahead and vandalized a Bitcoin machine. Aside this, the president, Naya Bukele, has taken criticism from different financial institutions based on his decision. While most of these criticisms came from not so good or better centralized entities, it’s sad to see that the current situation is making them seem right.

The president has made statements claiming that the bitcoin decision is for the good of the people, to bring financial freedom, security and transparency, but unfortunately this missing bitcoin case is saying other wise. Imagine how they feel checking their bitcoin wallets and seeing that their money is missing with no explanation and most of these people use their bitcoin for businesses. It will be giving an impression of betrayal because after the criticism, some people went ahead and trusted the president and used the app to store their bitcoin. Aside making them look stupid that the president has not addressed the situation, these people’s money and business is on hold right now.

Addressing the citizens and giving them some amount of explanation shows accountability and gives them hope that their president is behind them and is probably working on the problem. But being mute for the past three or more days now sends the wrong message.

Twitter is filled with a lot of complains from the citizens crying out on the missing bitcoin in their wallet. Lots of these citizens have talked about how greedy and corrupt the government is, and this act definitely depicts the impression. It makes no sense to be silent while these citizens cry out, it’s a government issued wallet, there supposed to be a well sophisticated amount of security on the wallet because the country’s integrity is on the line and people depend on their bitcoin since it’s literally the legal tender for the country.

Wait, you mean everyone's Bitcoin is missing in their wallet? How? What happened? Why is the president not saying anything?

This somehow looks like something out of a movie. He either has withdrawn it to make more investment or he's been sabotaged and is looking for a way around the problem. He doesn't want to go to the citizens with the "I would look into it" speech. However, going MIA on them right now especially after knowing they were against the idea is a wrong move. I don't think he'd keep being president after this.

Interesting, I had no idea any country had made a crypto it's main currency, hell! I didn't even know El Salvador was a country 😂
But this is quite sad though. I hope things get resolved soon.

Losing one's hard earned money just like that is not funny at alll

😂 I guess you are a crypto Newbie right? Because that was the biggest crypto news at that time. I won’t lie I knew about the country when they made bitcoin a legal tender.

Well time will tell, we will truly know if the President actually has the citizens best interest at heart.

Yeahh. I'm pretty fresh to the whole crypto space & stuff. But I'm really curious to learn, only it feels a little overwhelming the amount of information out there.
Would really like to wrap my head around Nfts, web 3.0 & stuff as well.

I'm not very familiar with the political situation over there but it seems to me that opposition would have a blast here.

You have so many vague arguments that the general public would swallow. Bitcoin is causing climate change, BTC is used by criminals, it can be stolen... etc. Scammers can also leverage the situation since so many people got free BTC and seed phrases they probably don't understand. Stealing them on mass wouldn't be that hard.

Adopting BTC on a national scale this early is a huge gamble. I just don't know if their president is unaware of this fact or he has balls of steel.

Oh shit! Well, the truth is things like these would always come up and set us back a lot of times before we reach the promise land at last.

Can't wait to hear the explanation, though.

While it is unfortunate that some citizens have had technical issues with their wallets, the benefits of bitcoin/crypto adoption far outweigh the losses involved in these rare cases. So far no one I have spoken to in El Salvador has complained about missing funds in their Chivo wallets. Let's allow the Chivo developers to sort out these bugs, as all new projects need to do in the initial stages, and get on with the plan.
