Affective Strategies: Pedagogy of Love

Love is the most powerful source in the universe because it is capable of driving great changes in humanity. Man's destiny is marked by that ability to give and receive love. This is how I remember the words of Alfred Adler, quoted by Pérez Esclarín, (2009, p.13): "All human failures are the result of a lack of love" How much truth is there in this sentence, hence the importance of including Pedagogy of Love in school spaces. I am a teacher by profession and I am passionate about teaching. Dialogue with my students has been vital to have knowledge about what they want to learn, what are their aspirations, tastes, interests and how we should approach them since the objective is not to comply with a program or meet personal expectations. It is urgent to captivate the students and obtain favorable and satisfactory results for all.

The teaching and learning process can no longer be seen as a punishment, rather it must be interactive, creative, innovative, enjoyable and participatory. Teachers and students are innate researchers, so the focus should be on optimizing methods, forms of evaluation and strategies that are outdated. Without a doubt, good treatment is an excellent starting point. In this sense, Freire (2002) points out that:

The Pedagogy of Love is oriented to the formation of the human being in the practice of values that allow them to interact in the context with respect, tolerance, responsibility, honesty and solidarity, facilitating their adaptation to the world, where the teacher, through affective strategies, consolidates the cognitive, procedural, attitudinal development.

Today we need a training in values, the society of the 21st century is wrapped in a technological and advertising boom that superimposes the superficial over the transcendent, that is why the development of critical thinking in the academic field is essential. The formation of different competencies in these citizens supposes the consolidation of a more pleasant world to inhabit.

Throughout my passage through the classrooms I have shown that the application of the Pedagogy of Love is not isolated from other educational conceptions, on the contrary, example and curiosity are intertwined. As José Martí would say: "Doing is the best way to say." In the classroom we must be that engine that motivates students to want to learn, there is nothing more tedious than being in a place by obligation. When the activities are attractive to the student body, they will be interested and attentive in acquiring new knowledge. Sánchez (2015) would approach it as follows:

We must overcome the disconnect between word and action, be faithful to our principles and act with professional ethics. To be exemplary teachers we must value teaching as a means of self-realization, reflect in our actions love, peace, harmony, cooperation, solidarity, companionship, tolerance, sensitivity, responsibility, punctuality, joy ... (para. 10)

The example teaches and there is nothing that speaks better of educators than their ethics. Being a teacher is a great commitment because we are responsible for the future of many children and adolescents, our influence will decisively mark the lives of many young people. The treatment we give you and the trust you can place in us are vital for your emotional and cognitive development. The word is a great gift that we have and we must know how to use it.

The task of educating is a joint task of all educational actors and the family. In this sense, Salas (2007) comments:

In these times it is very common to find in schools children and adolescents lacking affection, overprotected, hyperactive and insecure, with low self-esteem, with parents who work all day and do not dedicate time to them, or very severe parents, in addition to being surrounded from a bad family environment, etc. These circumstances modify the behavior of the students, they become unstable and have difficulties to achieve integration with their classmates and with the institution itself. (p.37)

This reality is latent in educational institutions. Faced with these types of scenarios, it is advisable to seek help from social workers, psychologists, psychopedagogues and other professionals who contribute to the well-being and protection of students. I also believe that the Love Pedagogy should be applied from the aforementioned postulates because they are so necessary in these times where there are many relatives who are incapable of giving affection and are even absent due to different circumstances.

The educational process is a path full of nectars and troubles, which is built little by little, each victory we will celebrate as long as we have tried hard enough to achieve it. It is a priority to rethink education to make it more human, more everyday and more meaningful. Without a doubt, love, in its broadest sense, gives meaning to many people's lives.
