In this Haiku I've tried to express the power of the sea as a personification, using the Greek gods as a vehicle for metaphor. Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea and Selene is a titan/goddess of the moon. I have included links within the text of the Haiku to learn more about these deities from Greek mythology.

This is day two of my month long challenge - from the 06th of August until the 06th of September - to post a daily Haiku on steem. Each week will have a different theme based on picture prompts from either Pixabay.com or Unsplash.com. This week's broad theme is different natural environments.

I have created a new tag #monthofhaiku. If anyone wants to replicate the challenge please feel free, I will check the tag occasionally and try to curate the better Haiku. However, this is not meant to be a challenge to the writers' community. I have an extremely busy month ahead, and I started this as a personal challenge so that I didn't drift away from posting on steem. Please, forgive me if I'm slow to respond to comments or am not around on discord, I have had to reassess my priorities over the last few weeks.

The picture used in this post is creative commons, linked below pic. If you have enjoyed this Haiku, please check out my homepage @raj808 for similar content. Thank you.

Well done on a sublime haiku, and the fact that you did a writeup to accompany it is good, otherwise a post of only three short lines would be lame. Good imagery in the haiku. I also write poetry to appreciate your effort here.

Hi Julian, glad you enjoyed the Haiku m8.

the fact that you did a writeup to accompany it is good, otherwise a post of only three short lines would be lame.

Ha ha, yeah well I'm pretty much unable to put up any post that short (3 lines). However, I do have a problem with the perception that people have around poetry and haiku in particular.

I've had a few poems published outside of steem in literary anthologies, and I studied creative writing in uni, so it's easier for me to recognise the markers for well edited/crafted poetry I guess. I was the first (insane 😉) person to successfully submit steemians poetry to curie. The idea that a Haiku is a shitpost is a wrong idea to me. A haiku can be a Shitpost... if it's one that shows no device or consideration of form. This haiku took me around an hour to write and edit outside of the added explanatory text, and it's not the best out of this week's selection. I think today's haiku, scheduled for later, is my best so far.

P.s. I'm not having a go at you btw, I'm only writing all this in case anyone happens along, reads this post and thinks... this guy just isn't putting in the effort.

Thanks for the feedback 👍I'll have to check out your poetry m8 🙂
