A Desert Storm - Ekphrastic Poem

Sand in the hourglass
melting over
memories of molten
moments, bitten
by rare rain fall.

Striations flow,
light enthralls,
singing cerebral parables,
forging patterns
in the echoing gorge.
Dripping pastel veins,
desiccated remains,
an eon of cells -
death knells
in wind-blown grains.

Words, they open up the universe within.
Words, they make the world feel like win.

Nice 🙂

I agree. Painting pictures with words is both my passion... and now my job as well. I'm lucky really.

Cheers for the comment, and the rhymes spellmaker 👍

Looks like those creative juices are flowing well @raj808! That's a very evocative image, enhanced by your words that seem to flow right out from the rocks. Enjoyed that one!

I'm glad you enjoyed the poem plantstoplanks 👍

enhanced by your words that seem to flow right out from the rocks.

That's exactly what I was going for, kind of like a personification of the following sandstone in that gorge. To be honest, a huge amount of the inspiration came from the picture which is stunning 🙂

Beautiful words that almost creates the picture on my mind. This is great poetry my friend. Poetry is like fire from the soul but that fire of mine seems to have died ages ago. With a little spark, slow down the pace and some alone time. Wishing that fire would again come into place.

Great words and I love the image as well as I believe it's Antelope Canyon in the USA... I've been there and it really is like that (minus the slight modifications done from the photographer). Carved by millions of years of flood water when the rain season comes to the desert.

Thanks Nik.

I'm jealous you've actually been there to witness those amazing creations of art from nature's easel.

I knew in the back of my mind how those canyons were formed, so I just let the picture take me on a journey of personification. Imagining the desert like a living entity, flowing through time. The sand part eroded rock, part dedicated remains of all the desert creatures.

Glad you enjoyed the poem m8 👍

Nature needs no filters mate! I did have an American Travels blog series I started but it stuttered pretty badly and then I went to Australia and NZ so going to focus on the latest trip first then head back there. I'll try to remember to tag you in it when I post it but it could be years by then 🤣

I love the way you poetically describe it all and that you can get inspiration from the picture. Hope you get to visit it in real life as you will probably have enough fuel to write a million poems about it!

Love the poem. You have a marvelous way with the word. And captured the photo well. I spent some time wandering the Butte's area, a truly magical place. You do it a service, if that is possible.

The slot canyons are pretty mind bending. You did a great job with only imagination, capturing their essence and the surroundings. Amazingly, you can be in those, and it will rain hundreds of miles away, and all of a sudden they fill. Have to be on the lookout all the time. I'm pretty sure they are now only accessible through the native tribes, and I think you have to take a tour. I guess I could look it up, but sometimes I'm lazy, and assumption covers a lot. It's been a number of years since I've been there. But protecting that whole area from damage has been very important. Cheers

100% everything you say. Protection from erosion from tourism is so important.

Tbh, I'm happy to experience it from the picture for that reason 🙂

Poetry is just a bonus 👍🙂👍
