Bird bath and bird feeder on my terrace

In my previous article I shared how I'm trying to bring a small garden on my terrace. As another good deed to birds and squirrels we have near our house, we decided to purchase a bird feeder and bird bath. Technically both are the same terracotta container. I just filled one with bird food and another with water.

Summer is approaching South India and the next few months are going to be really very hot. This is the time when birds and squirrels find it hard to get food and many die because of dehydration as well. I thought this bird bath would be good for the birds to take a quick bath if required and also drink water. One thing that I have to do is change the water on this day once a day.

I'm happy that after I installed this, I was able to see some birds having a drink from this. I was able to witness that but couldn't take a photo of the same. At least I'm happy that the purpose is solved. These eco friendly terracotta containers are available on Amazon and I bought a pair of them for ₹ 500. Whoever can afford it should purchase something like this and place water and food for birds on our terrace.

The second tray that I bought is being used as the bird feeder. I fill it with grains that are easily consumables for the birds and squirrels. I used to have one made from coconut shell earlier and used to hang that on trees. This one is now handy I should say. There are a lot of sparrows near my house. I selected the food in such a way that they are also consumable by sparrows.

My mother was worried initially that if we do all these, then our house would be filled with lots of birds and especially the part where they make the place dirty. But nothing like that has happened so far. So for now it is good. Similar to this, I have also watched birds coming and having a drink from the other tray as well.

I'm very fortunate to capture the above shots. I was able to take a photo of a squirrel trying to come and feed from the tray. I captured this while writing this article. Look how beautiful they are when observed. These are some of the natural wonders that everyone should enjoy. They are a little scared because I was sitting right next to that.
