The Bad Habit of Asking "How Much Money Do You Earn?"

avatar

Conversation with any relatives should be easygoing— general chitchat, there could be advice sometimes. Well, depending on the degree of “connectivity”, it may go deep— like, some casual talks, some adult jokes if personality matches.

But, of course, it should not be interview-like, asking something to create an embarrassing situation for both of the parties. If there is nothing to spark the interest or make the conversation more vivid, there could be some jokes…..like, “ever fought a bear?” and then Ha ha ha…..

Yes, this can be a good conversation starter if there is really nothing to start with or your mind is utterly empty of ideas. But, asking about salary….man, this is something we, men are always afraid of. It’s not like only the boys earn in a family or they are the prime persons who bring food to the table— in today’s context you’ll find numerous women working by the side of the males to earn a livelihood.

In some cases, they are the persons meeting all the needs of a family while males are taking care of household chores. But it’s rare women are asked about their salary in public….at least I haven’t seen anyone asking, “hey, how much do you get paid?” It’s possible it is confined to the “women” only, maybe a girl asks another girl about that…but, in regards to the boys, it’s like everyone has the RIGHT to ask how much he earns…..ridiculous!!

And if you are hesitant to reply, the chances are, the person asking the question will be like— aw, don’t be shy, tell me if you can manage the expenses, how much can you save a month….blah blah blah…..

This is very common among the relatives we consider “close to us.” Also, you will find some random people whom you’ve met on the bus on your way to the office asking the same question without hesitation. It’s like they are interviewing to get his daughter married to us— that’s never happened though :)

Suppose that stranger is really looking for a son-in-law in the bus, still, isn’t it awkward for the person?

If we look around, we’ll find newlyweds are being asked the same question in front of everyone in a room or family gathering. There are some SPECIAL relatives, we all have them, one or two— they are experts in asking such questions, creating embarrassing situations out of nowhere— only to satisfy their pervert minds, to open up ways to criticism; initiating a judgemental ground that makes fun of others.

And the most interesting part is, those relatives— they start advising in such a way that often turns out to be a blessing or intelligent guideline for the newlyweds. They have the charm to convince the others in the room; including the parents of both parties. In some cases, the parents join them in advising the poor couples like this is the only chance they had in their whole life— they never have met their son and daughter in life and if they miss today, they can never offer guidance/advice to them.

But nobody thinks about the mental pressure they go through at the very moment. Nobody cares whether they should be dragged into such a situation that highlights nothing but the inert ignorance they had hidden in their heart.

Salute to such relatives and strangers we meet in our daily life— without them, we wouldn’t know no matter how much we earn, it’s nothing. We must strive for more until they can be drowned in it. That’s the actual scenario for most of the social settings we live in.

But, instead of drowning them in the midst of wealth, I wish I could’ve burnt them with the little money I earn…or, put them into their mouth until they suffocate and DIE!

😂😂😂😂

Yep, that's true.
Also, it's the same Bangali, who never asks questions like that; i.e. ME 😃😎

He he, me too.
Just think how I feel when someone ask me about even my husband's income. 😬😬
I don't give a sh*t about how much anyone earn or never go inside their home to see their furniture and all. It's so gross.
I wish we could learn some manners.

Ah ha, furniture......we have a special kind of people around who judge someone by the furniture anyone uses. I almost forgot about them.... 😂😂😂

Never ask a man about his salary and a woman her age. This should be written in the stones.
