Forgive Me, Dear Stomach!

There goes a saying— health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship. Also, good health is the best blessing a human may have or desire. But healthy doesn’t mean being fat and bulky; in fact, fatty people are considered to be suffering from a common disease ‘obesity.’

However, the good news is— Bangladesh failed to make it to the top of the global obesity index even after having a terrific reputation in being top in some of the indexes— you know what I mean :p

Quick Google research and I have found the top 10 countries with the highest obesity rate. See them below—

  1. Nauru (61.00%)
  2. Cook Islands (55.90%)
  3. Palau (55.30%)
  4. Marshall Islands (52.90%)
  5. Tuvalu (51.60%)
  6. Niue (50.00%)
  7. Tonga (48.20%)
  8. Samoa (47.30%)
  9. Kiribati (46.00%)
  10. Micronesia (45.80%) ref

So, where does Bangladesh stand? I am impressed to learn Bangladesh stands almost at the bottom of the index, YAY!

Look what I have found—

When looking at average BMI, three countries tie in for the least obese country in the world, with an average BMI of 21.1: Madagascar, Eritrea, and Ethiopia. Five other countries have average BMIs under 22: Timor-Leste (21.3), Burundi (21.6), Japan (21.8), China (21.9) and India (21.9). Bangladesh (22.0) and Burkina Faso (22.1). ref

The second last one, that’s something to celebrate.

However, among the list of least obese countries, Japan has an extraordinary diet scheme mostly based on Seafood. But the other countries have found their place mostly due to poverty and lack of proper nutrition. So sad!

Anyway, the reason why I am so serious about health is nothing but that I have fallen sick lately; today to be specific. Actually, you only feel the necessity of good health and healthy living once you are sick and having difficulty living peacefully.

Having a job that is fully remote, sometimes I feel like my head is exploding with boredom— even after I am surrounded by my dearest ones. So, I have tried to overcome it and (un)fortunately, I found ‘food’ to be the most effective medicine in this context.

I think you can guess what happened next. As long as I am at the desk, I feel hungry the whole time— and my wife never hesitates to bring me food whenever I ask her to. It was going fine until the last day— probably I ate more than necessary; way more than I should.

My tummy didn’t take that long to react. It started to growl abnormally followed by a bit of pain here and there. I didn’t care at first, instead, I kept eating more and more. It was almost midnight and my stomach kept protesting against my abusive behaviour. But I didn’t care— it will go away once I am asleep— I thought. Besides, I have this tendency to avoid any medication unless they are very serious and prescribed by any hospital (yeah, I usually don’t take medicine if I am not hospitalised for some reason except for allergy which is acute in my case).

So, the struggle continues. And when it was past midnight, I couldn’t hold it anymore. It will be usual— I thought this and went to the washroom. After waiting for a few moments and trying to understand what was going to happen next, I realised it was time to lean before the basin. And in a moment, I blocked the waterway. So, I had to move somewhere else and I have never vomited like this before. In one case I can remember such vomiting— back when I went to St. Martin’s and drank a whole lot of seawater while swimming. I prayed hard so that I don’t faint— and Allah saved me there, Alhamdulillah.

This could end here— that’s the way it should be— my eating habit that I have developed recently.

But there’s something narcotic thing in food— I just can’t resist eating even when I am full. So, what to expect— my stomach has started growling once again after resting the whole day; there’s nothing remarkable— only a few pieces of Naan and Grilled chicken in the evening. Let’s see where does it go tonight.

[ p.s. I’m enviably slim :) ]

The thing I figured about slim people is that we love eating a lot and though our stomachs disagree sometimes we still get back at our eating habits and would still remain slim 🤭🤭. Please try not to eat too much when you're tummy is full. I think last week, the same thing happened to me and you'll not believe where I slept, in the toilet 🤭. I stopped and threw up till at little time intervals. I even dozed off on the toilet seat. Lol. It was so sickening but when I recovered, I ate more but whenever I was full, I don't dare have anything again.

Absolutely yes, some people have this blessing of God to remain slim even after having a voracious appetite. It's not like they can eat tons at a time but the mouth doesn't stop the whole day. 😋
Thank you for your kind advice, I will try not to cross my boundary but cannot guarantee 😅
