In order to talk about the changing concept in gender, we'll always have to make reference to the past. Before the digital age:

  • There were no gender equality, by that I mean that women were not seen to be enough in capacity compared to the way they viewed the capacity of a man.
  • A woman possessed little or no bargaining power in the choice of who and who not to marry.
  • There were thick lines drawn and specific standards on the roles and responsibilities of a woman in the society and home including; farming, child bearing and home making.
  • Women could not express themselves as they were expected to be subject to men. They couldn't wear what the want in the style of their choice.
  • The fidelity of a woman was more important than that of a man.
  • Women were blamed for the sex and gender of their children.
  • Marriage was viewed as an achievement.
  • Male child preference was at its peak.

I've been opportune to see a movie on gender dissatisfaction. I can't recall the movie title but the story lines are fresh in my memory. There lived a boy who was eager to be a girl. His desires got him wearing girly attires. When he started manifesting secondary sexual characteristics, his curiosity and desperation gave him an idea after consulting a friend to use hormonal therapies on his breast and eventually, she developed breast. If you reason carefully, you'll believe with me that there's a reason why he was dissatisfied with the gender he originally had.

A growing child should have parents who can help in building his or her self esteem and should be oriented to the fact that either gender has potentials and can explore the biggest dream their mind can ever conceive.

Presently all the afore listed beliefs and misconceptions are greatly diluted. For instance:

  • People especially successful ladies no more see marriage as an achievement. They'll want to pursue their carrier to the peak.
  • Both gender are free to express themselves.
  • Marriage is a choice and if it becomes abusive, instead of dying in it, divorce is possible.
  • Women can be leaders of any sector and can occupy great capacities.
  • In marital homes, love rules and there is role Dynamics, where a man would bath the children, go to the market, cook and can help in house chores.

In order for a mother to address her child's questions pertaining to the changes in the concept of sex and gender in this digital age, the mother must be a woman who knows her right and place in the society, should have a good self esteem and should have a fair knowledge and perception on the gender roles as well as the potentials possessed by each gender because you can't offer any knowledge you don't have.🀷

Also, mothers should be mirrors, role models and inspiration to their girl child, Things are better done than said. If the parent of a child are goal-driven, diligent and successful, it Will be rare to have a child who is dissatisfied with his or her gender because the child can boldly say; I want to be like my father or mother.

Thank you for reading to the endπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ₯°
