Civility works when it goes both ways. That hasn't happened since at least the 1990s, if not much earlier.

I'm not saying one side has to go scorched earth against the other side; but like the kids say today, "read the room."

Be civil until civility is ruled out. Then go medieval/nuclear against the other side. Then be magnanimous & gracious in victory.

It seems that Mike Pence & his ideological brethren forget (or are unwilling to do) 2nd of those 3 things.

totally agree on that sequence, the gracious in victory part gets skipped way too often these days
