" MAFIA "- A restaurant with Italian, Japanese, and Georgian cuisine.

I won't say I am a sushi lover but when I don't have any choice or when I don't have any mood eating junk foods like burgers or pizza, I eat sushi. The funny fact is when I tasted sushi for the first time, it was a horrible experience, I didn't like it. I don't like fish and the smell of raw fish kinda made me vomit. So, you understand how I felt when I tasted sushi for the first time. Later I discovered different types of sushi and later I have come up with a specific choice of sushi.

I am not a vegetarian but when it comes to eating sushi, I always prefer cheese, fruits, and vegetables. I also eat salmon or tuna one too but not much. I hate to taste that sushi that is made with eel fish or other fishes or seafood except for prawns. So, when I order sushi, I am very skeptical.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I went out for dinner. I was not feeling like cooking after coming back home from work. The place where I live is far from the city center and we don't have good restaurants here. The options are very limited, we only have 2 restaurants here but they are also away from my home. Basically 20-30 minutes walking distance and during winter it takes more than half an hour for me to reach there. I don't feel good walking around during winter, I feel sick easily. But that night I was hungry and wanted to eat something good. So, I decided to go to the nearest restaurant called Mafia.

"MAFIA" Restaurant

"MAFIA", this word reminds of a criminal organization, the Italian Mafia. First I thought maybe there is a relation or connection but I was wrong.

Mafia is a local franchise restaurant in Ukraine, they have several branches in Kharkiv and they are doing business within around 7 oblasts in Ukraine. They have Italian, Georgian, and Japanese cuisine on their menu and have offered comfortable space with top-quality foods to their customers. But sharing my experiences would be the truth of their restaurant, isn't it?

Mafia is not my go-to restaurant, I heard a lot about them and people take home delivery service from them as well. Many people love their food so most of the time it requires a reservation for lunch or dinner. But the branch which is located near to my home doesn't require a reservation. The crowd is less here compared to other branches besides except weekend, anyone can go there anytime.

The restaurant is located near the main road, Ludwig Ave with setbacks. Anyone can see the restaurant from far away. They have also an outdoor sitting area which stays open only in summer. They also have a semi-shaded sitting area for the smokers but it stays closed during snowy winter.

The entrance of the restaurant is very inviting, a huge chandelier was waiting to welcome me. It looks typical compared to a modern restaurant's exterior but not too bad as a top-quality restaurant.

After entering the restaurant, the bar area caught my eye, it is basically not fully a bar area, waiters take food from here to serve their customers. When I was seeing everything full of curiosity, a waitress came to me asking where I want to sit and also asked me if I have a reservation or not. I told her about my requirements and then she showed me the table. But first, she asked me whether I want to keep my winter jacket in their cloakroom or not. So, first I kept my jacket to the cloakroom and headed to the sitting/dining area.

The interior of the dining space is very classical with vintage furniture. It seemed like a large linear hall room space to me where people are having their food under one roof. The interior is not very prominent, a very simple roof design with no extra paneling. The walls are completely white and one side is full-height glass. You can choose where you want to sit.

I personally don't like their lighting system, they have used warm lights beside the whole dining space remains almost dark. It reminded me of a Chinese restaurant that I have visited a long time ago. The indoor atmosphere of the restaurant was kind of moody and silent, hardly you can hear voices. I felt like people only go there for food and then left through many comes with the family. I think top-class restaurants are like this, a moody, quiet environment just to enjoy food.

Some spots of the restaurant are decorated with these wooden logs and string lights. That's only the one thing I love about their decoration because their chairs are very uncomfortable to me.

Soon, the waitress gave us the menu and we have ordered our food. I had no intention to taste their Italian food and the price of the Georgian food was so expensive. So the cheapest option was a sushi set so I have ordered a sushi set and a drink, basically cocktails.

Here is the sushi set I have ordered, it was a set with a different combination of sushi. The sushi with cheese was wonderful and tasty. The drink was fine, with good taste. Overall it was a nice dinner.

If I need to write a review I would say this is not the best restaurant in Kharkiv. There are many better restaurants in Kharkiv with good food and interior at a reasonable price. The food of the Mafia restaurant is not reasonable at all besides personally I don't like the atmosphere of the restaurant though many love this restaurant. That's why this restaurant is still famous in Kharkiv.
