Medical check-up at home.

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

The first time I got a check-up at home was in January this year by my younger sister. She insisted to check my blood pressure and blood sugar level. My Grandma had a small BP monitor at home and I surrendered myself to her so she could do whatever she wanted as she insisted I did it. When she took the test, I got the result of the blood sugar test which I checked its meaning on Google as I didn't understand. I got to know I had pre-diabetes and immediately got scared ever since then. I have always eaten a lot of sugar and taken sugary substances a lot, Since that day, I stopped it except for taking natural sugar that comes with meals which is normal.

I have been careful of what I eat and drink; I don't take drinks that have a lot of sugar in them, and the only drinks I take are Milk, Nutri Milk and water, This has been working fine for me till now as I need to maintain my normal sugar level. Besides, my big sister kept advising us to take our health seriously because it's important. She is trying to prevent us from having diabetes, and remembering my last test in January, I am too scared to have that ailment because of how expensive it is later in the future. My Grandma had diabetes for many years and was maintaining her health with an exorbitant amount of money every month.

My sister had brought her automatic digital blood pressure monitor home and after the burial, she called every one of us to come do some tests on blood sugar and blood pressure. On that day, after morning devotion, she instructed everyone in the house not to take anything including drinking water until she had tested everybody and we all complied because we were eager to know our health status. She came prepared for us all especially knowing how much food and drinks we took during the event, but this didn't make me take any other soft drinks aside from the Exotic drink made with Mango juice.

In the video, not everyone is there so I decided to make it short. There are just 6 people in the video; the first person is my younger sister who is the last born of my parents, the second is my cousin who took care of Grandma till she died, she is the daughter of my Grandma's younger brother, the third is my younger brother, the fourth is my cousin who is my uncle's daughter, the fifth is my humble self (princessbusayo) and the last is my big sister who was checking our statuses.

We really had a great moment and bonding together that day, knowing once we get separated, it may take a long while to see ourselves again except for my siblings because we keep talking via WhatsApp video every time. The only person missing from the test is my immediate younger sister who had to travel on the last day of Grandma's burial because of the nature of her work in Port Harcourt. I got to know my blood pressure and sugar level which is normal for me. I just need to keep maintaining myself and avoid anything sugar or whatever may trigger diabetes in the future.

All images are originally mine.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

It's good to know ones health status on time so one can start taking necessary precaution, diabetes is not a funny disease at all. It won't be our portion oo.

It's not a funny disease oo as it can take a lot of money once it shows up. One just needs to do what it takes to take care of their health.

I did this last year but haven't done since then. Your sister really tried for placing the family health as a priority.

Happy Sunday.

It's nice to have the bp apparatus.. I have a manual one at home.

But btw, the proper way of checking the BP is to rest the arm on a table at heart level to get more accurate systolic and diastolic pressures ☺️.

And who's BP with 132 systolic pressure? The normal should be 120/80... Mind the results as there could be underlying issues you guys aren't aware of.

Yes, there was no table to rest on at that moment and because of how busy we were on that day, she had to make it a quick one. The ones with high blood pressure were my uncle and a cousin. One was caused by obesity while the other was through a lot of thinking. Mine was around 110/75.

Good to hear this your sugar level is now normal. It's all because of the precautions you took and stop eating the sweet things. Take care of your health and eat less sweets.

Appreciate your sister's concern for the family members. This had to be done in regular intervals of time. Good to introduce your family members through this video.

Hello there!
That was an unusual activity at a family reunion, but a valuable and important one, which was a great initiative for your sister.
I trust that you'll continue to monitor your health and find every day to cut back on sugar and make your health your priority. After all, it is expensive to maintain and keep up with treatments otherwise.
Thanks for sharing this, I found it inspirational.
Have a great Sunday:)))

It is expensive to keep up with treatment and it's the reason we must take our health seriously. Thank you so much for taking your time to read.

Diabetes, I heard is a very terrible disease, however if one can adhere to instructions, it is something that can be handled. Please be very mindful of the things you consume, you know how much we love you right??

Carrying out tests is very important. It seems you are very scared of injections, the way you screamed made me laugh..

Very terrible disease and one should be extra careful too. Prevention is better than cure, they say. Thank you, Emreal for your kind words.

Stay conscious about health is very necessary and we should not negotiate anything with it. diabetes is one of the worst disease in my opinion because that one disease is enough help other diseases to made the best damage. My mother also has the disease ans I can feel it how bad it is.
Anyway, stay healthy 🙂.

Occasional health checkup is really nice. Seeing that you all used that as a bonding time is also adorable. This reminds me I need a good ol’ checkup too. Lol

I can imagine your fears when you saw that result from the machine that led you to google.
Actually I hate googling my symptoms, google has alot of information and similar symptom that will point you to something that sinks a heart.
I prefer to confirm from a doctor and real test but keeping a medical device like this to be mindful of our health is important, my dad has one too.
It is also good to stay away from sugary drinks.
Well done dear
