My wall socket got spoilt || Neighbour's chicken caused trouble 😐

Have you experienced a situation where everyone in the neighbourhood has light but your building seems to be the only one without light because there is an issue with the electricity wire? I have spent more than 4 years in this house, also the only one I ever lived as a student, and even when I graduated, I decided to stay so that I wouldn't have to relocate to another place while waiting for my certificate.

Since my stay in this house, I have not enjoyed electricity — if it is not about the bad wiring, it would be that rain fell and Nepa decided to give an excuse of spreading the wire till it gets dried then they would give us light. We mostly are given just 4 hours of light daily out of the 24 hours which is always unfair 🙃

It has always been a frustrating time when it comes to light in the building. There was a time when our street didn't have light for a week while other streets had light and it was as if the landlords in my street loved darkness more than light as they did nothing to rectify the issue. There was no meeting to decide on what to do. Many times, I and the other tenants (students) had contributed money to fix the problem by calling an electrician and we already paid everything with the house rent but our landlady who is an old woman just decided to turn deaf ears anytime we called her to explain what we are facing. At times, it would be a war trying to convince her to come over to check what was happening. The only time she comes around is when she wants to collect her rent or perhaps some people owe her and would come to lock their doors until they pay.

On Tuesday, I had another frustrating moment when the bad wiring affected my wall socket and it got spoilt. It worked in the morning when I charged my stuff. I noticed there was a sound like some wires were touching each other and were sparkling lightly. I managed it because it was due to the low current we had. The light will bring the full current and then later, return to a low current. That was what caused the light to sparkle in the socket.

At around 9 pm, they brought the light again and while trying to plug my phone and laptop, the socket got spoilt. I was pissed off. I knew there was nothing I could do that night. I needed to charge my system so I could continue with my work online. I was pained when I realized the light would be on for a few hours and I wouldn't be able to make use of it. I was feeling the heat from inside as I couldn't plug my standing fan too. I had to call a neighbour, told her of my coming over to her room to charge.

I was able to charge for an hour and was feeling uncomfortable 🙃, there is nothing like home, I mean your room where you would be comfortable and feel free. This incident was making me get annoyed unnecessarily and wished the light could go off so that my mind would settle. At least when there is no light, it won't hurt me than seeing light and cannot make use of it. Eventually, they took it off after over 2 hours and I slept off waiting for what the next day would bring.

Another day arrived and I immediately sought an electrician through a friend who would come over to fix my socket. When I called, he told me he wasn't around but would come over around 2 p.m. It was 8 am and I knew the light would come up soon, but to wait till 2 pm was something I couldn't endure but I had no choice. They brought the light. The neighbour I charged at her place the previous night had gone for lectures and there was no room to go to. There was a house opposite ours and I thought of going there since they had a wall socket plugged into their compound for whoever wanted to use it.

I went there with all my stuff. While charging my gadget, suddenly, this aroma flew past me and I knew someone was boiling chicken. I was salivating and imagining that I was eating chicken. I couldn't stop perceiving the aroma and thought of leaving my stuff to keep charging while I leave the place. It then dawned on me that one has to charge at his own risk because it was an open place. If you must charge, then you should stay with them to prevent them from being stolen. I became stuck as I couldn't leave and the aroma refused to disappear. I thought of cooking mine but I later changed my mind.

I narrated this incident to my friends on Discord and one of them suggested that I should help the owner sweep her room so that she would serve me some chicken stew but I told him I would never do that all because of chicken 😅 I am a princess and can easily order my maid to prepare me some if I want but I remembered there was no kingdom and no maid for me to send on an errand 🙄 Well, the electrician came and fixed it, working fine now. I won't have to take my gadgets elsewhere to charge where an aroma would start tempting me to imagine the unimaginable 😕
