DO YOU LEARN NEW WORDS?

It's been two days I have last posted here. I wish I could have super magic power to work for me but it's not possible. I still can't imagine myself being drained at the end of the day and end up not writing anything in this community. I said to myself not to miss a day here but I don't see myself fulfilling the promise.

Some days ago, some people came to charge at our place and a guy was watching movie on his laptop and at the same time, charging it. I was sitting beside him minding my business with my phone and I saw him searching for a word he heard in the movie in a dictionary on his phone. I was impressed by him because this is what I do each time I come across a new word.

I love to find answers to something I don't know and with constant practicing, I am used to the word. I also write the New words down so I won't forget it.

No one is an island of knowledge. We keep learning each day and we can never find meaning to every word we come across with. This is why we have dictionary especially being installed on our phones instead of carrying the big dictionary around.

There are many words I have learnt so far which I do use mostly when I communicate with people.

WAYS I LEARN NEW WORDS?

THROUGH READING BOOKS

There is no way one wouldn't come across new words when reading books, novels, fictional stories, etc. I do have my phone beside me and whenever I come across a word, I quickly open my dictionary and search for its meaning. I then write it down too so I don't forget. It reminds me to always check through it. We need to be attentive and also read carefully so as to notice a new word being used.

THROUGH WATCHING MOVIES

I love watching movies with subtitles and will always listen and watch with rapt attention to every words being said. I have in many times watched movie and spend my time finding meaning to every new words I come across with. I prefer watching a movie for long and get something from it than watching for pleasure only.

Yes, I understand movie is for pleasure, but make sure you understand every words being said to understand what you are watching. Also, whenever I come across a title of a movie, I find the meaning first to understand what the movie would be all about.

For Instance, I watched an horror movie sometimes ago titled "The Conjuring". I had to find the meaning before starting to watch it. It gave me an understanding of what the movie is all about.

THROUGH DAILY COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE

We engage daily in communication with people. Everyday we find ourselves in the midst of others and by this, I don't let my phone be far from me because I believe I will definitely get a word to take home. When a new word I don't understand is being said out, I check for the meaning so as to understand what they are saying. As we are communicating, do not think you should ignore every words you hear. Remember we need to keep upgrading ourselves instead of saying the same word over and over.

The thing is we would get tired of repeating the same word. Let's apply the new words we keep hearing everyday and see how we would grow.

Thanks for reading

I do the same often if I hear a word I don’t know the meaning of I will often go look it up

When I was younger I was of the mindset to learn at least two new words a day perhaps obsessed with doing so I had a dictionary I’m my bedroom and if I had not learned any new words that say I would flip it open to a random page and read through the words till I found new ones

I love this! I do this too. I actually learned a new word today from @justclickindiva: the noun "percipience" - From the context, I had garnered a sense of its meaning, but I had to look it up! And what a wonderful word it turned out to be. I am sure I will have use for it in the future. If you don't know it already, do yourself a favour 😍 !PIZZA

Learning is a continuous process. For people like us who are bilinguals and want to write have to struggle harder for learning the language. I also look up the new words when I come accross them. However, i would confess that I don't look up every word. Sometimes they are too many and I can't nust learn them in that particular time. 2 to 3 words a day are enough to increase our vocabulary.

It is a motivating post @princessbusayo .

Sometimes, one just goes on a posting spree, while some other times, drought beckons. I have also gone a bit quiet on the chain recently and I think it is totally normal. We are humans, after all. I do all my reading on hive nowadays, so there's no time to read books or any other thing.

I often use Google and my phone dictionary to learn new words every day because I love knowing the meaning of words when I hear then, I feel it's a good way to update your knowledge.
