A Letter to My Younger Self

If I could talk to my younger self, it would be amazing, especially knowing that my younger self would get the letter and be encouraged to do more. Just like my friend @intishar said in his post days ago, he mentioned that before he could write to his younger self, he would have to think of the life he is living right now, and that’s a good one because that is how you’d give some words, either as advice or some sort of encouragement to keep going.

I was reminded of a moment some days ago when I told my younger sibling to do something, and she felt reluctant to do it. I was forced to let her know that if only we’d had the same push when we were her age, perhaps things could have been better today. I tried to advise her to better listen to what we are telling her today because she is lucky to find such teaching from us.

This is because we have gone through many experiences and our eyes are now opened, not because someone pushed us, but because we did, and here we are today.

So, talking to my younger self would be this:

Hey, baby girl, how are you catching up? I know you are trying to navigate this life, and perhaps you’re confused, but wait… You don’t have to rush. But firstly, I love how you are doing. I admire your independent nature and how you don’t want to ask for help because you feel that if you do, people might think you are weak or dependent on them.

No, don’t assume that. I learnt late that it’s never a crime to ask for help when needed. The only time it gets tiring is when you keep asking too much and constantly, when you could have figured the rest out yourself.

It’s okay to lean on someone for strength, but don’t overburden them; people don’t like it. We all have our lives to live, and everyone is trying to solve their problems. But mind you, the true ones care, and when you notice them, appreciate them too.

When it comes to finding your partner, don’t rush, please. Don’t be desperate like I was, though I’m glad I got back on the right path, and that’s because I surrendered everything to God. You can only get it best when God is involved. Wait on Him and know that waiting is part of His plan to bring you to His amazing purpose for you. God loves you and has good plans for you, even more than what you could imagine or think.

Don’t try to do things on your own strength because you will fail; only trust God and always ask for strength. It is only Him you can call on continually with your needs, and He won’t get tired. This is because humans are needy by default, and it’s okay to ask God. He won’t be frustrated. Do you see that it’s better to seek God first so He can lead you to the right person to help?

Another thing I would like to say is this: don’t be too hard on yourself. Get closer to the Word of God because it is the path to living a good life — the one that pleases your Maker. The Word is an entrance to the light you need to navigate this world and live a fulfilling life.

Please, never compare yourself. Everyone runs their own race, and we are all different. Be diligent in all you do because, in the end, you will stand among kings and not mean men. What I meant here is that when you take your work seriously and lead a quiet life, men will respect you.

Lastly, keep your ideas to yourself until you have achieved your goal. Don’t tell everyone your plans until the result is out. This is because not everyone is happy with your progress, especially those who don’t have any plans for their lives. They won’t want to see you moving forward while they are stuck. In fact, those who are moving forward won’t want you to meet them. So, keep quiet until you see results.

It will be well with you if you heed these sayings of mine.
