Karges imitating Scherer: Ricercar in g

Karges' Capricio in g is based on Scherer's Intonatio Quarta Secunda Toni. The capricio consists of two segments and only the first one is a citation of Scherer's composition.

Karges cites Scherer's Intonatio almost completely, he leaves out only the last bar of Scherer's original. Instead, he continues the fugue with another entry of the fugue theme and extended motivic play based on the fugue theme. After an extra 11 bars the first half comes to a close.

Karges than adds a sectond section, in ternary rythm, whose theme is based on the theme of Scherer's original. I cannot trace this part of the composition to an original of Scherer, so I assume Karges wrote this part himself. And true to the mold of these compositions based on Scherer's Intonatios, Karges concludes with a short section (only three bars) in again binary rythm.

Again a nice piece, pleasant to listen to and not too difficult to play.
