Johan Michael Bach, Nun lasst uns Gott den Herren | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest, Week 123
This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest, Week 123. I play Johann Michael Bach's prelude to the choral "Nun lasst uns Gott den Herren".
I transcribed this version of this composition from the Neumeister manuscript. Other manuscript sources attribute this piece to Johann Pachelbel. Johann Gottfried Neumeister however attributes it to Johann Michael Bach in his collection.
This piece can also be found in manuscript Mus Ms 30439, where it differs in little details from the version in Neumeister's manuscript. As I have a (not yet proven) suspicion Mus Ms 30439 is a collection of compositions by Johann Michael Bach, I followed Neumeister's ascription published this piece as a composition by Johann Michael Bach.
The version I play here can be found on my website following this link: http://partitura.org/index.php/johann-michael-bach-nun-lasst-uns-gott-dem-herren
The version from manuscript Mus Ms 30439 can be found here: http://partitura.org/index.php/johann-pachelbel-nun-lasst-uns-gott-den-herren.
Since Neumeister was not the best scribe, it's possible that the differences in his manuscript with the version in manuscript Mus Ms 30439 are acutally transcription error's from Neumeister.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Schnittger organ in the St. Martini-kerk, Groningen (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/groningen-st-martini.html).
