Understanding Self-Respect

Today we will be considering the topic Respect.
There is a popular saying that "respect is reciprocal". I came to discover that respect can be acquired, and disrespect can also be acquired, it all depends on what we want Respect can be expressed when we first have self- respect, only then can it be extended to others.
Self-respect is understanding and honoring our own needs. It’s knowing our worth and acting based on it.
Our level of self-respect acts almost like a blueprint to instruct others on how to engage with us, when we develop a healthy reciprocal relationships, we find ourselves surrounded by those who respect us, support us, and treat us how we want to be treated... knowing our worth helps to prevent us from being tossed to and fro by anyone, and also prevent emotional trauma.
Respecting ourselves is the first step toward understanding that we deserve love, consideration, and opportunities like everyone else.

Self-respect is also loving ourselves and treating ourselves with care. It’s the result of staying true to ourselves values and not being willing to compromise.
The more we engage in behaviors consistent with our beliefs and values, the more we'll feel fulfilled and confident. This, in turn, will improve our sense of well-being.
Respecting ourselves prevents us from comparing ourselves and our life with others. When we have a low level of self-respect, we tend to compare our lives with others which will bring down our self worth, and can later lead to low self esteem, comparison also makes us feel worse about ourselves, not good enough, and minimize our achievements.
When we have self-respect, we have accepted ourselves and believe that we are deserving of belonging in the society and the world.

In order to build self respect we'll be considering some tips which may help us

  1. Nurture And Identify Our Needs
    To build our self-respect we need to take care of ourselves, it’s important that we identify what we care about, and discover those things that make us satisfied and fulfill. We ought to identify our needs daily, instead of shaming ourselves of our daily need. We need to come out of that then Nurture our needs, and work towards achieving it.
  2. We Should Focus On The Activities That Excite Us.
    Our happiness should be prioritize as well. Self-respect is about our life satisfaction, and this can start by spending time and effort on the things that excites us and things we're passionate about. We need to create time out from our busy schedule to have fun, at least one in a while.
  3. We Should Learn To Practice Self- Care.
    Our well-being is very important, so respecting ourselves means taking care of ourselves mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically. Which includes rest.
    We can work more on our self-respect, when we consider identifying our values, setting boundaries, and nurturing our needs through self-care.

Our self respect is paramount, it navigates the effectiveness of our relationship with others, and the extent to which we can succeed.
