Ghibli siempre resalta en animación, en esta película hace muestra de sus diversas habilidades para mostrar diversas escenas sorprendentes visualmente, mientras nos cuenta la historia de una sirenita llamada Ponyo. La película fue estrenada el 2008, dirigida por el ya legendario Hayao Miyazaki. Siendo una adaptación libre de “The Little Mermaid” de Hans Christian Andersen.

Ghibli always excels in animation, in this film it shows off its diverse skills to display several visually stunning scenes, while telling the story of a little mermaid named Ponyo. The film was released in 2008, directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. It is a loose adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid".

Al comienzo de la historia, nos muestra a Fujimoto una especie de mago marino viendo como una de sus hijas sirenitas es atrapada en un caos, es arrastrada a la costa, siendo rescatada por Sosuke, un niño de 5 años. A partir de ahí, se irá forjando una relación entre esos 2 personajes, Sosuke y la sirenita, qué será nombrada Ponyo. En el transcurso, veremos el efecto tanto en los personajes como en la naturaleza que los rodea, la tan peculiar relación de esos niños.

At the beginning of the story, it shows Fujimoto, a kind of sea wizard, watching how one of his little mermaid daughters is caught in a chaos, is dragged to the shore, being rescued by Sosuke, a 5 year old boy. From there, a relationship is forged between these two characters, Sosuke and the little mermaid, who will be named Ponyo. In the course of the film, we will see the effect on the characters and the nature that surrounds them, the peculiar relationship of these children.

Ghibli vuelve a mostrar una calidad técnica deslumbrante, y si eso fuera lo único que contara en la película, solo podría ser perfecta; sin embargo, aquí siento que la trama falla en mostrar tensión, tal vez al ser un relato con enfoque infantil decidieron quitar ello, pero cuesta interesarse mucho en el futuro de los personajes, siendo tan previsible. Lo único que queda es deslumbrarse por los escenarios, las animaciones y ciertas situaciones bizarras.

Ghibli shows again a dazzling technical quality, and if that were the only thing that counted in the film, it could only be perfect; however, here I feel that the plot fails to show tension, perhaps being a story with a child focus they decided to remove it, but it is hard to be very interested in the future of the characters, being so predictable. The only thing left is to be dazzled by the scenery, the animations and certain bizarre situations.

Intenta explorar temas como la amistad, la inocencia y pureza infantil, y poco más. Lo que sí muestra es fantasía pura, escenas que buscan despertar la imaginación, especialmente de los más pequeños.

It tries to explore themes such as friendship, childhood innocence and purity, and little else. What it does show is pure fantasy, scenes that seek to awaken the imagination, especially of the little ones.

En mi caso, no creo que vuelva a verla por lo que me costó seguir interesado; pero, si eres un fan de Ghibli, posiblemente sea un obligado.

In my case, I don't think I'll watch it again because of how hard it was for me to stay interested; but, if you're a Ghibli fan, it's probably a must-see.
