The cluster fig tree

Hope you are doing well

There are many trees in our locality with clusters of fruits on the trunk mainly. This tree is unique to me as I have only seen the trees with fruits attached to the branches of the trees. This is the first tree which bear fruits on the trunk and not on the branches. That is the reason this tree amazed me a lot so I collected more information about it.

Some facts about The cluster Fig tree

• Scientific name of this tree is Ficus racemosa amd it belongs to the family Moraceae. It is also known as Red river fig tree.
• In India it commonly known as Gular tree, Udambra, Dumri
• It is native to Australia and regions of tropical Asia.
• Fruits are also used as a vegetable after discarding the seeds.

Religious Importance in India

• Leaves of the tree are used in Havans (fire rituals) in India.
• Under this tree, Maharishi Dattatreya used to teach his disciples. So this tree is seen planted at places related to Maharishi Dattatreya.

Medicinal uses

• Ayurveda has given great importance to Gular tree. According to Ayurvedic texts, The gular tree is astringent in nature with anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antiasthamtic, anti-ulcer, antipyretic properties. So various parts of the tree are used to treat various diseases.
• Bark of this tree, after making paste is applied on boils or mosquito bites.
• Gargling with the extract of the gular leaf can relieve you from mouth ulcers. Source
