The Hazy Party

Last night was one of those nights where I genuiely feared for my life and I will tell you why.

You know those scene in movies where a group of people could be in a room, smoking weed and crack and then before they know it, the cops would burst open their door, instructing everyone to stay down while they all get arrested?

Well that happened yesterday, only this time, the whole door bursting and getting arrested part only happened in my head.

You see, a friend of mine had invited me and a couple of friends to his birthday that was happening last night, being October 1st. And unlike me who rarely honour these kind of invites because experience has taught me that this kind of gathering are mainly filled with the kind of guys I do not want to be seen with, I had made an exception that night because I was bored at home and needed to do something different other than the usual laying around in my room.

When I got there, everything looked fine for a while and this was probably because we had gone a bit early and were one of the first people to arrive. Immediately we got there, the celebrant offered us a seat and a couple of drinks, so everything was going as I had hoped until about twenty or thirty minutes later when the other guest started arriving.

I had no idea who any of them were so I had decided to take out my phone and not really do anything on it, just mess around for a while, that was me trying not to be bored already, but the moment I raised up my head from my phone, it felt like I was somewhere in the heavens if heaven smelled like marijuana because I was covered in a cloud of smoke.

Apparently those guys who had walked in were close friends of the celebrant and they all preferred to smoke than drink, and of course, the only thing they all wanted to smoke was the one thing we all could get arrested for, regardless of who was smoking and who wasn't....the fact that you are on the scene, would immediately make you guilty.

So the moment I noticed what was going on, I started to do the only smart thing I felt I could do, I started to look for escape routes that I could take just in case there was a raid. For some reason, my dumb mind convinced me that if the police showed up, I would be able to not only jump down from a one storey building where the birthday was being held, but I would be able to outsmart them and escape.

And I know, some of you might be wondering why I didn't just leave the party the moment those guys walked in. Well, I didn't for two reasons. The first was because it was going to be seen as me being rude, because for some reason, smokers hate it when someone act disgusted about the smoke, and my second reason was because of the celebrant. I was there to celebrate with him and the least I could do was stay up to at least an hour.

Which was what I did before eventually calling it a night and heading back home. The whole thing was a little bit scary because my mind was playing games with me the whole time, thinking about nothing but me getting arrested but at the end of the day, I'm glad that didn't happen.

Your second reason is not reasonable to me. I think if anyone invites me, then he must have the capability to offer me a suitable environment otherwise I won't hesitate to leave the party. I think you could come out gently also by giving an excuse for health illness or something else. I hope you will be careful from the next time because every time you won't be lucky.

The thing is, I half-expected something like that to happen because after all, this is a student environment where they all do all kinds of drugs.. I just never expected it to be that much but yeah you're right.. I should have left the moment I got uncomfortable.
