Reckless Spending

When you live in a country where it's currency keeps on depreciating every day, you find it more and more difficult to save most especially those earning in the country's currency and not in US dollars.

It's a sad thing because one thing about the naira going down in value is that the prices of everything gets higher and yet the minimum wage remains the same. So if you were earning fifty thousand naira a month and with that you could afford five bags of rice, with time you probably will just be able to afford just two bags because while you're still earning the same amount of money, the prices of everything has gone up because of the value of the currency depreciating.

The reason why I'm saying all of this is because of today's contest which has to do with us converting twenty dollars to our local currency and spending it in day.

Well if there's one thing I love to do but rarely do, it's spending. Everyone loves it, but then you become careful when you're the one working hard to earn the money you're spending but for us on today's contest, the imaginary money we will be spending is gotten for free so we're going to lavish it or like some of my friends will say, we will squander it.

One dollar is equivalent to six hundred and forty naira, which means twenty dollars is around thirteen thousand naira. Now if I'm to spend this money with my friends, it will be gone within a blink of an eye because it's very little. Our first stop will be this new cafeteria right in front of our school where they sell snacks and then we will just sit and pounce on some ice cream and meat pie. We might even end up adding more money from our pockets, remember the goal is to spend and not save.

But if I was the only one spending this money, I will probably do the same thing, but the only difference will be that the money might last a little longer but I will also be spending it on junk food too because we don't cook over here, lol.

The summary of this whole thing is that the whole of that money will be spent on food and this are things I normally don't eat on a daily, not because I can't afford them but because I just rarely eat them because I don't see them as real food (cooked food) and they're not really healthy.
