A Gift For Mummy From My Daughter Victoria
According to traditional Chinese customs, daughters are considered to be less "valuable" than sons. As such couples are pressured to produce sons and normally the daughter-in-law is considered as having failed in her duty if she did not produce a son. Sons are treasured because they can pass on the family's surname to the next tradition. Once a daughter is married off, she is considered as "belonging" to the husband's family. In such a scenario, daughters are denied access to a lot of opportunities such as access to education.
Even as late as the 1960s and 1970s, there are Chinese families in Sarawak who gave away their daughters away for adoption to Malay families. Nowadays, the thinking has changed so much, and for most people the gender of their children is not an issue. In fact, there are those who prefer their daughters more than sons because daughters tend to be more family oreintated. In general, girls tend to pay more attention to their parents and often look after them in their old age.
For my wife Roselind and I, we found that our daughter is a blessing to us. As we have an autistic son Jonathan, Victoria has brought so much joy in our lives. Having worked for about 3 years, last month Victoria bought a braclet from Pandora as a gift to her month. My wife was over the moon and really appreciated the gift. The braclet is not cheap forms a substantial part of her salary.
As a father I am also proud that Victoria did not buy the braclet for herself only but also buy one for her mother as well. Now my wife wears the braclet proudly as it is from some one very special.
Thank you Victoria for being so thoughtful and for the wonderful gift.

Charles, you're a little outdated. The new saying goes:
Having a daughter, you will earn another half a son after she got married 🤣
Those bracelets looks extremely bling. Hope Victoria didn't bore a hole in her wallet. Congratulations to Rose 👍 Now let's see what happen tomorrow since it's father's Day 😁
Tomorrow will be just dinner. But the thinking has shifted and I have heard people saying that now they prefer daughters compared to sons.

Such a heartwarming, beautiful post! ❤️ Thank you for sharing that with us. Victoria is the daughter mothers dreamed of, you are very lucky to get her. It is so sweet of her to gift you the Pandora bracelet. It isn't even about the money, it's about the love that went into it.
Thank you for sharing with #MarketFriday! Victoria will be blessed richly.
My apologies for being so late this week! As you can see from my post, I was looking at a piece of property, probably three hours away from where I live and I had to go back several days in a row (spending all day there.) Six hours on the road and being there for hours took my entire day away, and here I am on Monday doing #MarketFriday! Sorry!
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:
