Tiempo para descansar/Time to rest

Time to rest
This initiative of @damarysvibra and the @holos and lotus community, brought to my mind what my history teacher used to tell us in school.
When the Spanish arrived in America, they first used the indigenous populations as their slaves to do farm work and work doing the house chores, but then they realized that the native inhabitants of this land, were not used to do these jobs and the Spanish said that the Indians were lazy and then they brought the natives from Africa to do these hard labor and it was a time of exploitation and slavery. This is not lost on me even though it has been quite some time. These stories bothered me a lot, because they were terrible times of domination of one culture over another.
The indigenous cultures that inhabited and still inhabit Venezuela, retreated to the south of the country. They have of course their way of living which is related to the environment and the activities they need to perform to cover their basic needs: food, housing, health and something very important for them, spirituality and connection with nature. Rest time is also important and they take advantage of it in activities such as swimming in the river and rocking in their chinchorros, where they can also communicate with each other in a peaceful environment, tell stories and pass on your knowledge to your children.
FuenteThe chinchorro has the power to help you relax with that movement, that vai ven, that the person pushes with his body and you enter a state of drowsiness and tranquility. I have experienced it for myself and now I understand that for the indigenous cultures of this part of the world, it is the ideal place for rest.
We tend to think that rest time is only when we sleep, but this is not so because we can rest our body and mind doing activities that fill us with joy such as reading, listening to music, even dancing or just resting, DOING NOTHING ELSE.
We are not work machines, the excess of mental or physical activities can bring harmful consequences for our health, we have to give ourselves the opportunity to be in tranquility, without thinking too much about what we have or should do. Our culture has been that of work, it seems that it is the most important thing and I think we have to balance it with other activities as important as work.
sourceSometimes it happens that when we are at home, we are always looking for something to do, this happens especially to women at home and we do not give ourselves a break. We do not need everything around us to be impeccable, that the floor shines without a speck of dust. That there is a book placed differently from the other in the library. We have to learn to rest, there are moments for leisure in our lives, to recharge our energy.
Some ways of resting without feeling remorse or guilt.
- Staying in bed on Sundays or holidays.
- Reading in the evenings in an armchair or in bed.
- Going to a park and sitting and contemplating nature
- Watching a TV show we like, a movie or listening to music.
- Playing with our children
- Talking with friends
- Going out and having a cup of coffee in good company.
fuenteFor me these are very good ways to rest but of course everyone has their own, the important thing is not to feel overwhelmed by work and give yourself a break, a pause in the daily chores.
The phrase of the philosopher Francis de La Rochefoucauld: When you do not find rest in yourself, it is useless to look for it elsewhere. I interpret it in this way: rest is something very personal because it depends on what gives you peace and tranquility, if for different circumstances of life your mind is overwhelmed or worried for some reason, that restlessness is there bothering and preventing the mind from the deserved rest. You have to look for alternatives that make it possible.
