Esta es mi primera publicación en la cual les comparto mis opiniones sobre una película que he visto muchas veces. Desde la primera vez que pude disfrutar de la película de los estudios Disney “Raya y el último Dragón”, me encantó no solo la historia sino también los personajes y la música. Tres elementos que a mí me parecen que atrapan al espectador.

Esta película se estrenó en marzo de 2021 en pleno inicio de la pandemia. Creo que esta fue una de las razones por las cuales no recibió un justo reconocimiento. Bajo la dirección de Don Hall y Carlos López Estrada, el guion fue escrito por Qui Nguyen y Adele Lim.

Los actores Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Izaac Wang, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong, Sandra Oh, Thalia Tran, Lucille Soong y Alan Tudy le dan vida a los personajes con sus voces.

Raya y el último dragón es una película de animación, ambientada en una región del sudeste asiático en una tierra imaginaria llamada Kumandra, donde viven los dragones, criaturas míticas que ayudan a los pobladores, cada uno con sus características y poderes propios. En Kumandra hay cinco tribus ubicadas en lugares con diferentes características y por consiguiente con recursos que determinan su tipo de vida y su cultura: Colmillo, Corazón, Columna, Garra y Cola.

En el pasado hubo una guerra entre los dragones y los druun, criaturas surgidas de la incomprensión y el egoísmo de los hombres. En esta lucha la dragona Sisudatu (Sisu), con el apoyo de sus hermanos, quienes crean una gema con el poder de acabar con los druun, destierra a estos de Kumandra, pero los dragones quedan petrificados. La gema queda bajo la protección del reino Corazón.

Luego de quinientos años, de nuevo la ambición y el egoísmo de los hombres, hacen que los gobernantes de las otras tribus, quieran apoderarse de la gema que está bajo el cuidado de los guardianes de la gema, el jefe Benja y su hija Raya, que es todavía una niña. En esta lucha la gema se parte y allí Kumandra es acechada de nuevo por los druun, que regresan a las tierras.

Allí comienza la búsqueda de Raya para encontrar a la dragona Sisudatu, pasan años hasta lograrlo y es aquí donde su fortaleza y su empeño en lograr la unión de Kumandra comienza con la ayuda de la dragona y en ese camino se consigue con personas de cada una de las tierras, que van a unirse a esta misión.

¿Qué es lo que me atrajo de esta película?

Por supuesto en primer lugar la historia, porque me atrae la cultura de la región asiática llena de tradiciones, arte y leyendas. Y esto está muy bien ambientado en la película, que es muy rica en diseños y colores típicos de estas culturas. Visualmente es muy hermosa.

Y por otra parte esa búsqueda de la unión entre las regiones separadas y el papel de los dragones como beneficiarios de la humanidad, muy diferente a como se representan en otras películas. En esta, son criaturas benevolentes.

Los personajes

Raya con su fortaleza y su deseo de ver de nuevo a su padre la lleva a emprender una tarea que pudiera parecer imposible, recuperar los trozos de la gema que están repartidos en las cinco tribus y volverlos a unir, junto a su inseparable amigo Tok-Tok, una especie de armadillo gigante.

La dragona Sisudatu. Me gusto que en la película se pudiera transformar en humana, porque en ella expresa sus debilidades y es un personaje muy gracioso, a veces loca, tierna y sabia pero también imprudente, que siente que no hizo lo suficiente para salvar a Kumandra y que ayuda a Raya a comprender la importancia de la unión entre todos y a dejar el rencor atrás, pero que también aprende a valorarse.

Los amigos que se unen en el camino, y que comparten con Raya esta aventura y proeza, cada uno aportando su grano de arena para salvar a Kumandra. De la tierra de Cola, Boun el joven navegante y cocinero de su restaurant en el barco. La "bebé estafadora" Noi de Garra y su trío de compañeros que la cuidan, los Ongis, con aspecto de monos. Tong un temible guerrero de la fría tierra de Columna; todos ellos han perdido a sus seres queridos petrificados por los druun. Por último, Naamari de la tierra de Colmillo, que pudiera decirse que es la villana de la historia, pero más que villana me parece que es la rival de Raya por circunstancias de la vida.

La Música
Bellísimas canciones acompañan esta historia. James Newton Howard, músico estadounidense compuso la partitura y Jhené Aiko, quien compuso e interpreto la última canción "Lead the Way”, la versión en español la interpreta la cantante mexicana Danna Paola.

Está película tiene un mensaje muy importante y es el de la confianza y la unión, y saber que no estamos solos. En ella la mujer tiene un papel muy importante, es su fortaleza para lograr conseguir lo que se propone, con astucia, pero también con sensibilidad y en este camino aprender a confiar en los demás. La amistad y lograr un objetivo común sin egoísmo, son valores que esta película resalta.

La película es un reflejo de la realidad que vivimos en este mundo, la lucha por los recursos y la ambición de los líderes en la toma de decisiones, más que ayudar a mantener la armonía y el equilibrio, generan la desunión y la guerra. Ojalá algún día comprendamos que este no es el camino y desterremos a los druun para siempre.

Raya y el dragón es una película hermosa y con un mensaje maravilloso, si no la han visto se las recomiendo.

From the first time I was able to enjoy the Disney Studios movie "Raya and the Last Dragon", I loved not only the story but also the characters and the music. Three elements that to me seem to grab the viewer.

After five hundred years, again the ambition and selfishness of men, make the rulers of the other tribes, want to seize the gem that is under the care of the guardians of the gem, the chief Benja and his daughter Raya, who is still a child. In this fight the gem is broken and there Kumandra is stalked again by the druun, who return to the lands.

There begins Raya's quest to find the dragon Sisudatu, years pass to achieve it and it is here where his strength and his determination to achieve the union of Kumandra begins with the help of the dragon and in that way he gets people from each of the lands, who will join this mission.

What attracted me to this film?

Of course first of all the story, because I am attracted to the culture of the Asian region full of traditions, art and legends. And this is very well set in the film, which is very rich in designs and colors typical of these cultures. Visually it is very beautiful.

And on the other hand that search for the union between the separated regions and the role of dragons as beneficiaries of humanity, very different from how they are represented in other movies. In this one, they are benevolent creatures.

The characters are wonderful, Raya with her strength and her desire to see her father again leads her to undertake a task that might seem impossible, to recover the pieces of the gem that are scattered among the five tribes and reunite them with her inseparable friend Tok-Tok, a kind of giant armadillo.

The dragon Sisudatu. I liked that in the movie she could transform into a human, because in her she expresses her weaknesses and is a very funny character, sometimes crazy, tender and wise but also reckless, who feels that she did not do enough to save Kumandra and who helps Raya to understand the importance of unity among all and to leave the rancor behind, but also learns to value herself.

The friends who join along the way, and who share with Raya this adventure and feat each contributing their grain of sand to save Kumandra. From the land of Cola, Boun the young sailor and cook from his restaurant on the ship, the "baby con artist" Noi of Claw and her trio of companions who care for her, the monkey-like Ongis, and Tong a fearsome warrior from the cold land of Columna; all of whom have lost loved ones petrified by the drunn. Finally, Naamari from the land of Colmillo, who could be said to be the villain of the story, but more than a villain she seems to me to be Raya's rival due to life circumstances.

Beautiful songs accompany this story. James Newton Howard, American musician, composed the score and Jhené Aiko, who composed and performed the last song "Lead the Way", the Spanish version is performed by Mexican singer Danna Paola.

This film has a very important message: trust and unity, and to know that we are not alone. In it the woman has a very important role, it is her strength to achieve what she sets out to do, with cunning, but also with sensitivity and in this way learn to trust others. Friendship and achieving a common goal without selfishness are values that this film highlights.

The film is a reflection of the reality we live in this world, the struggle for resources and the ambition of leaders in decision making, rather than helping to maintain harmony and balance, generate disunity and war. Hopefully someday we will understand that this is not the way and we can banish the drunn.
