Too slow to react to a jerk
There are these people walking around who always have a quick, witty remark at the ready. I am not one of those people. I am more like a "Could you put that in an e-mail, so I can get back to you in a day or two?" kinda person.
And that, my friends, sucks when you have to quickly respond to a jerk!
Alright, so yesterday I was playing Guild Wars 2 World vs World during their stupid beta week with stupid people I don't know (yes, I hate this beta). I joined a newly forming squad (big group of players) to hopefully get some big fights against an enemy team.
Now, games will sometimes have these 'perfect' class builds to use in a certain type of gaming mode, which stand out above the rest. We call them 'meta builds'. World vs World has a couple of those. I do not play one of those.
One of my team mates asked me what kinda build I had and I responded with "Probably not a WvW approved one", to which he replied "Use a WvW approved one".
I then proceeded to very calmly, very nicely, very openly explain to this little prick that I can't use the meta build, because ever since my burnout, I haven't been able to properly learn a new build and I would just end up dying all the time. To which he then responded "So you're retarted".
Well that escalated quickly!
Oh boy. I could have said so many things to this uneducated little moron who was never properly raised by his parents. Or this brainless dude who was suffering from small-dick syndrome.
I could have said "I'm actually a very smart and nice person you just insulted for no good reason.", or "Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me like that!", or "What is going wrong in your life to make you feel like you have to act out in such a way?", or "I don't have time for uneducated, dickless morons like you, so I'll just report you, block you and wish you good luck with whatever sad little life you have that makes you act like this.", etc. etc.
I still haven't decided which response is best, but to be completely honest, it doesn't matter anymore! Because I should have said it right at that very moment. Instead, I said "Wow, you're nice", reported him for verbal abuse and paid him no more attention.
That was a perfectly fine response, but it could have been better!
I get quite frustrated sometimes about the time I need to properly process input and then formulate a good response to this. It's not just in situations with little pricks like these, it's also very annoying in a working environment. I am usually pretty quiet during a meeting, because I receive a lot of information to process and I process it deeply and need time to give it a good place, connect it with already exisiting information and then react to it if needed. I also think that if you don't have something useful to say, you should just stay quiet. This means I'll have lots of smart remarks and important questions... after the meeting.
My quick responses at any given moment might be incomplete, but ask me to reply later, in an e-mail, and I'll write you one that's airtight. I am a superhero e-mail writer, but a crappy quick responder.
This isn't bad persé, were it not that we live in a world where a silver tongue will get you anywhere, whereas a more quiet, considerate person will quickly get overlooked.
I'm really not sure where I'm going with this, but I guess this is to make the macho population aware that there are plenty of silent forces out there you shouldn't overlook, just because they don't have a witty remark at the ready or need some time to properly respond to your question.
Oh! And you shouldn't act like a little, uneducated jerk, just because you're a faceless person online. Words still hurt, or get you banned/suspended (let's hope).

Sometimes you meet angry and offensive people. Two months ago I also met one in League of Legends: Wild Rift. Luckily/fortunately the majority of the players are friendly. At least in League of Legends: Wild Rift. I have more than 200 hours in this game. I played Guild Wars 2 a little in 2016, when I had a working PC/laptop. Nowadays I do not have, so nowadays I play only mobile games.

Yeah, some people are so rude. We'll just have to remember it's probably because they have a crappy life, so we should pitty them.
On the financial side, nowadays my life is also crappy (I live under the minimum wage, and I would not be able to financially get through this winter without the huge help and support I received from the Hive community), but I always tried not to be rude. I was homeless multiple times in my life, even as a child. I still was not rude. Or not intentionally.
Which is great of you, because rudeness doesn't get you anywhere and it just ruins other people's day. Many people have problems now and then, but that's never a reason to be rude to others. Who knows how hard they have it in life.

It's how I mostly respond to online hater folk. It seems lame but after having said it in response to several things they say it tells to make them explode!!
I think it is a good trait to not immediately react though. These people are the ones projecting their issues on everyone else

It's sad that they feel they have to act out like this to random strangers online. They must have a shitty life.
They do have a shitty life plagued by insecurity. It's why they do it. The old classic shit on others to feel good about themselves.
I bet they become really bitter old people. Like the ones you see snarking at youngsters on the bus :0D

"Meta" builds annoy me. I don't play games to be "best," I play to have fun!
In World of Warcraft I mained a Fury Warrior and a Holy Priest. But everyone wanted Arms Warriors or Discipline Priests and were always, "You should reroll. Arms is better. Discipline is better."
No, thank you. I don't care that it's better, I enjoy this particular playstyle and have fun with this particular playstyle and I'm not going to change just because it's "better."

It happens all the time. Not so much in a work settings, since I'm unemployed. But even in a friendly environment out with friends, they'll be talking, I'll be observing, and when my brain finally processes enough so that I actually have a comment to add... well, the topic has changed. And yeah, a lot of the time I have nothing useful to say anyway and I don't see the point in talking just to fill the silence. 🤷♀
Exactly! Who cares about pumping out another 1 or 2 dps? Games are meant to be fun, so you pick the playstyle you enjoy most.
Haha, yeah that's so annoying! Would be nice to think of replies sooner, although I guess our process probably has some advantages aswell. Just... less visible 😅

I encounter this a lot as well.
The only online game that I play nowadays is League of Legends, mainly because I've been playing since Season 2 (meaning I've been playing that game for 10 years now) and I've got very used to it. I can just play without focusing too much, because I'm on autopilot, and I very rarely try really hard to win, at least not any more since I got some heart problems a few years ago for getting angry at stupid people too often and too much.
However, the amount of people I encounter that are simply brainded, not because of the way they play but because of their mentality and behavior, would make me go crazy if I would not put effort into remaining calm.
I went past wanting to give a quick and great reply to their stupid remarks, I just want to beat them with a baseball bat sometimes, especially when I play great and I have a score like 3/2 (3 kills, 2 deaths) against a much better opponent or someone who receives help from his teammates, and then some moron on my team having a score like 2/7 (2 kills, 7 deaths) starts calling me a retard or whatnot because I didn't play the way he think I should have.
Also, I hate metas in games. I want to have fun, not to micromanage my entire inventory, spells, characters, and income and spend 16+ hours a day playing just to be in the top 1%. It's sad that some of those who are in the top 1% think they've achieved something important and act as if they're somehow superior to you.
Gaming of any type is fun. The people in some games are not. That's why I mostly play single player games.
Very smart choice. It sucks that there are so many badly behaved people ingame. Or elitists who have completely forgotten gaming is supposed to be about fun. I do enjoy the MMO's, but I tend to solo play through them to avoid these people.
