Joining the Schools Press Conference!

It has been a busy day today as I was invited to be part of the 2024 First Congressional District Schools Press Conference with the theme of empowering resilient communities through Campus Journalism which was held earlier at Manolo Fortich National High School in Bukidnon, Philippines.

Although Campus Journalism competition among schools in the Philippines is conducted every year, for the first time, the Congressional District Press Conference happened in Manolo Fortich. Compared before, after winning the District Level, the First place-winning school will represent the Division Level, but now, it changed to competing for the Congressional District before the Division Schools Press Conference, to Regional, and finally to the National Schools Press Conference.

Before the final competition, we all gathered at the Manolo Fortich Gymnasium for the opening program. After the opening program, the students went to their respective areas for each event where the scouts holding flags were located. Since I am the facilitator and judge for the Science and Technology writing, I stayed on the line and facilitated the event.

Perhaps it was an honor to be invited as one of the facilitators and judges for the Congressional District Schools Press Conference. There were two categories, elementary and secondary. The medium of instruction for Science and Technology was both Filipino and English writings. The winning schools from the different districts competed at the Congressional level and the contest took two hours for the students to finish their write-up.

I facilitated the elementary category with English as the medium of instruction. The instruction was to write an article about Artificial Intelligence. They were given enough time to write on the venue. After two hours, I read each of the writings of the students. For both elementary and secondary, I judged more than fifty papers.

I enjoyed reading the articles of the students. And I was so delighted that they had great insights about the topic based on facts. I see that the students who participated were truly wide readers and brilliant too.

All the judges and facilitators gathered in the conference room and made the final decision to choose the winners. Only the first and second winning schools will represent the next level which is the Division Schools Press Conference.

It took until evening to finish but I went home with a happy heart as I accomplished my tasks with a smooth flow. And I am even more delighted since finally, it is Friday!
