Powdered Eggs Review/Using "Prepper" Food

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Hey friends! So if you read my blog you might remember a while back I bought two cans of what might be considered "prepper" food, that is, powdered eggs and powdered butter. I got them partly because the supply chain is borked right now and since they have a long shelf life I thought it was a good idea to keep on hand. At the beginning of the pandemic, a lot of perishables were in short supply and that's mostly better now but there are still weird little spurts of things going out of stock at stores. Also, I just don't use eggs very often and they often will be in my fridge for months before I use up a dozen, so I thought this might be a better everyday thing for my infrequent egg use anyway.

So I used the powdered eggs in this new-to-me recipe (a winging it recipe that I got the idea from a Tiktok video that did not mention ratios or measurements at all, so you can see I was just eyeballing it), and the eggs tasted great, just like any other baked or scrambled egg. You reconstitute them with equal parts water, and 1/6 cup is one egg, so in this video I used 1/4 cup which turned out to be too much for this recipe (it was supposed to be chicken nuggets, it was more like a very packed chicken omlette or frittata). But it still tasted good!

So if you were ever wondering if "prepper" food was actually decent or just gross, so far the eggs are a win. Haven't tried the butter yet. Still have lots of that in my fridge! :)

In your recent comment, you mentioned about this powdered eggs and I finally found this post. Will have to check out if such things available where I live. Would be nice to have this option esp these days.

I did look for them again because I was going to suggest them to others, but they too are almost double the cost (I paid like $35 when I bought them a year ago and right now they are like $65). Still is probably cheaper than buying that many fresh eggs, but a big purchase all at once!
