How To Fix A Door That Doesn't Latch

Greetings, DIYers! Do you have doors that won't latch? It's an easy fix if you have the right tools. You'll need a screwdriver, a wood chisel, and a mallot or hammer.

First use your screwdriver to remove the plate. After this, I tried closing the door and saw it was about a centimeter too low compared to the hole in the frame to actually latch. This is funny because the door is already mounted so high there is a huge gap on the bottom. Like it's a good thing I don't have mice because one could easily fit under that gap to get into the closet.

Fixing the hole is much easier than taking the door down, so take your wood chisel and hammer it into place to remove however much you need to remove to make it align with the doorknob latch. So in my case, I removed about a centimeter from the bottom.

Test the closing to make sure you took enough out. All good? Now it's time to put the plate back.

You can see here I needed to remove a little from the outside edge as well, so that the plate could sit flush with the wall.

Better! Now screw the plate back on, and your door will properly latch. It took me maybe ten minutes to fix it. :)

¡Mejor! Me llevó unos diez minutos arreglarlo. :)

Poor people skills - you have to DIY everything because you can't buy everything or pay someone to do things for you. ;)

When the apocalypse comes, poor people will survive because rich people won't know what to do without buying everything. 😂
