Visiting Tierra del Fuego National Park

Today I wanted to share with you my experience visiting Tierra del Fuego National Park and the train of the End of the World.

Tierra del Fuego is the southernest province of Argentina, in which Ushuaia is located. It's National Park includes a wide variety of flora and fauna across it's many, many hectares.

I had booked a tour in which we would get a ride in the train and then, visit the most iconic places of the park, as it's huge.

We started really early as it'd take some time to get there and we had a lot of places to visit. The day was wonderful at first, and I thought that was great for taking some pictures! But, as the weather in that part of the world is really unstable, we went in just a couple of minutes from this:

As well as that, it starting getting colder and colder. Good thing is that we were about to get into the train to start the adventure. Meanwhile, while we waited for the rest of the group to arrive, I took some time to take some pictures of the flowers that were near the station:

I found them really beautiful!

The End of the World train is worldwide known for its story, as it used to be a mean of transportation for prisoners that were being held in the Presidio, which was the biggest argentinian prison at the time. This train connects Mount Susana (you can see it in the picture above!) with the prison, which is an 8km ride.

Nowadays, you don't get to do the complete route, as it's all constructed inside the National Park and tourists are not allowed in certain parts. The train now covers only 5km, which makes it a 30 minute visit inside the Park.

The train is very nice and comfortable, specially considering that in Tierra del Fuego almost every single day is really cold. I went in December, which is summer in this side of the world, and still, I found it really cold!!

As the train goes, you get a great sight of the huuuuuge hectares of green, nature and lovely flora and fauna that the National Park has to offer.

As an intermediate stop, the train allows tourists to get off and get to know the Macarena Station:

In there, and after some stairs, you get a beautiful sight of the Macarena Cascade:

After a couple of minutes, the trains leaves for it's final destination, in which we could walk and do some trekking in the National Park. It was another 20 minute ride in which we enjoyed a little more green (and clouds...).

When we got off the train, we started walking in the trails that lead to the Acigami Lake.

Tierra del Fuego is well known for it's huuuge and very tall trees, they're called lengas and ñires. I just love being able to walk there, there's so much peace.

After a couple of km, we arrived to Acigami Lake. Acigami means "large bag" and it was called like this by the native people from Tierra del Fuego. Afterwards, it was called "Roca Lake".

At the time we got there, it was even cloudier than before, and there was a very light rain over us. Still, as this place was so beautiful and magical, it never stopped us from walking and having a great time with nature.

We even had the chance of having a small family of gooses that were over there. At first they were somehow scared of seeing such great group of people, but then they started getting closer and closer to us. They seemed to be pretty social!

After a while there, we went to our final destination: Lapataia Bay. This time, we followed the paths that lead to it, it was really nice!

It was really empty, as tourism had been allowed just a couple of days ago, after closing everything down due to covid-19 restrictions. It was weird, but still made it nicer to have the Park almost for us!

We arrived at the Bay and we certainly had some amazing sights of it, it was simply wonderful... and the weather was starting to get nicer!!!

We spent some time admiring nature before heading back to Ushuaia. It was a wonderful trip and I really loved the chance of getting to be in contact with nature that hadn't been modified or altered by humans, it all seemed so peaceful and magical!
