RE: Taking Photos with An 18 Year Old Digital Camera

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

I bought my first DSLR exactly when you did yours, 18 years ago, just before my son was born... It's a Nikon D60, except for the battery (that I changed as you did), everything works perfectly! It doesn't have a live view, and it doesn't have video, but photos are still better than with a mobile phone... Especially when I'm using it with natural light, and from a distance like your first photo in this post... Those photos are usually perfect! Like yours!!!

20-30$ for that camera is a bargain! Can't believe that people pay thousands of dollars to have a phone with a "good camera"...

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

Nice! Quite literally the only reason that I buy canon cameras now is because I bought this one back then. Sense I already had the EF lenses I just kept upgrading the bodies and got used to the Canon menus. I am sure that if I had bought a Nikon like you did I'd be still using those.

I keep hearing promises of how amazing the phone cameras are, but I have noticed that no matter how good your phone camera is, if the light isn't absolutely ideal the image looks horrible at 100%. It has this digital smeary compression thing going on and crappy dynamic range. That being said, I've seen people shoot what looks like movie footage on a phone. I am definitely nowhere near that skill level.

That's why I just bought a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. I'm currently rigging it up and will post about it. We're in the process of making a kids show which I hope will be successful!

BTW - I just voted your witness (I thought I already had). You're movin' on up! Mine has been resynching for a few days now. I am in the processing of setting up a backup node for these situations. It is a major headache when this happens.

Can't wait to see the results! Regarding phones, I do know that you can learn tricks to make things, as you said, movie footage, but in the end, you don't have that "brute power" you have with "regular" cameras...

Thanks for the vote!! Appreciated!!

Mine has been resynching for a few days now.

What's happened? It forked out? Resyncing is a pain in the ass... I remember the wait for the first block was like walking in a dark room... lol...

Somehow the blockchain became corrupted. I have no idea how this happened. I am a bit frustrated because I went with Privex because of the claim that you could be back up in minutes after a problem be reinstalling the server which is almost instantaneous. The problem is, the latest snapshot is from August and the drives I paid for are pretty slow so it is taking days to catch up.

I am setting up a backup server with striped NVME drives and will be making my own snapshots. That way I'll always be ready for this. I was waiting to do this until I was closer to 50th place, but it looks like things go pushed forward!

Yeah, I saw that those Privex VPS are too cheap to be good... I mean, they can work, but in the situation, like you described, it takes time to put it back up...
