I want to know your mining route! Although I guess I get lucky quite a lot in Monarch's Bluffs. Honestly, I've been making mortal enemies for iron nodes aswell. And pigment plants... People need to stay the heck away from my pigment plants. I need to look good, so I need lots of dyes to color my armor. My syndicate robe quickly changed from purple-ish to red. Much better.
I’m not quite sure what iron is doing in cloth wear or the many other items in the game.

As far as my mining route it's along a cliffs edge. That is all I'm saying.

Ah, mine is too and it's working pretty well most of the time. Has a pigment flower on the way too. Bonus! I just need sooooo muuuuuch iron 😭
