Facebook has never had more users than today, and the pandemic has made people go online more than ever. But Facebook's revenue has hit a plateau. Even though I find that a very good evolution, because I really don't like the way Facebook is heading, the mother company, Meta is growing bigger by the minute.
Yesterday, a Facebook group of 600000 members got diminished from Facebook, because of political reasons. This group was a group of the "Freedom Convoy 2022" in Canada. 600000 users disappointed in the blink of an eye, that is just something that doesn't go unpunished. And that is not the first example of such a thing. Groups get banned all the time, especially since the pandemic hit. And that is obviously readable in the revenue of Facebook. One would expect that in the middle of a pandemic and so much more traffic on the platform, because of lockdowns, the revenue would rise a lot higher, but it didn't. It stopped growing, and that is a clear sign, at least for me, that Facebook as a platform is on its way back. The highrise days are over.

Enter Meta

And if I see that, so does Mark Zuckerberg. He changed the name of the company from Facebook to Meta, and for good reason. Facebook is no longer the flagship of the company it once was. There is no more growth potential there. To the contrary, more and more people are leaving the platform. So he is putting his money and effort in the Metaverse, a Web 3.0 approach, which is of course a smart move. But it is a centralised affair, so I will try to stay away from it. But, I do believe the future of Meta is big. The all over the internet web they have spinned is so big, people won't even be aware they are using a feature that is in the hands of Zuckerberg. We can blame him a lot, but not that he is not a smart business man.
