FARMING SEASON

Greetings my fellow hiveans. Today, I will like to discuss a little on farming. In my locality, January is usually our planting season. As a farmer, I have already gotten a piece of land.

My two different empty lands ready to be used for planting this season.

Labourers
Farming is not a one-man business. It requires a lot of people, thus making the job easier and fast. Before now, I have labourers who helps me out. I have already notified them. They will clear up the bush and make it ready for cultivation. Between January and February, the land will ready.

Early Rain

Farmers will wait for early rain to fall before crops can be planted. Some that has borehole water system will irrigate theirs. Depending on weather, rain might fall late January, February or sometimes March. If rain falls and softens the ground very well, the labourers will till and make ridges with their big hoes.

Manure
Here in Nigeria a bag of fertilizer is costly. Without manure, crops won't grow well. So I usually look for local manure gotten from pig farmers and poultry farmers. I mix both and use them. Other times I will go the market and buy paints of fertilizer to help my plant grow very well.

Crops
There are different kinds of crops planted during this season. Some of them are maize. There are two kinds of maize: white and yellow 🌽 corns. I found out that during last year's plantation, people now love yellow corn because of it's sweetness in making pap (our local meal). Already I have bought some from the market.

I also bought different species of okro with vegetable seeds. The pictures below shows them all.

You see am really ready to plant. Am only waiting for rain. As I am writing this post my workers are clearing the bush making sure everything is in order for this year's farming. By March or early April I am expecting a bountiful harvest. Thanks for reading.
