Knockout to ticks || Our experience with ticks 🐶🐶🐶

Un largo camino en los que probé cualquier cantidad de productos.

A long road in which I tried any number of products.

Recuerdo que la primera mascota que tuve fue a los 14 años, me la compraron en Barquisimeto, un cachorro de un mes de nacido. Era un Chow Chow dorado , Oso lo llamé. Él fue mi primer perrito con el que tuve responsabilidades oficiales, darle de comer, cuidarlo, bañarlo entre otras.
Oso creció y empezaron los problemas con las garrapatas, yo lo revisaba a diario siempre estuve pendiente. Hubo una época donde no sólo el perro sino la casa estaba infestada de garrapatas, mi mamá recuerdo que busco quien fumigara toda la casa y patios, yo justo iba llegando del colegio cuando consigo a mi mamá con oso dentro de un balde grande aplicándole un poco del producto con el que habían fumigado en la casa, en cuestión de minutos Oso empezó a sentirse mal y yo desesperada empecé a llorar, de inmediato lo llevamos al veterinario. Resultó 4 días hospitalizado y el doctor regañando a mi mamá ya que el producto era muy fuerte y le había penetrado por la piel produciéndole una fuerte intoxicación sino lo hubiésemos llevado de inmediato hubiese muerto envenenado.

I remember that the first pet I had was when I was 14 years old, bought in Barquisimeto, a one month old puppy, a golden Chow Chow, I called him Oso. He was a golden Chow Chow, I called him Oso. He was my first puppy with whom I had official responsibilities, feeding him, taking care of him, bathing him, among others.
Oso grew up and the problems with ticks started, I checked him daily, I was always alert. There was a time when not only the dog but the house was infested with ticks, I remember my mom looked for someone to fumigate the whole house and yards, I was just coming home from school when I got my mom with Bear in a big bucket applying some of the product that had been fumigated in the house, in a matter of minutes Oso began to feel bad and I desperately started to cry, immediately we took him to the vet. He was hospitalized for 4 days and the doctor scolded my mom because the product was very strong and had penetrated his skin producing a strong intoxication, if we had not taken him immediately he would have died of poisoning.

Fue muy complicado controlar las garrapatas con él, recuerdo que compraba unas pipetas que le colocaba en todo el lomo a contra pelo, eso controlaba un poco las garrapatas. Oso al paso de un tiempo enfermó y murió.

It was very complicated to control the ticks with him, I remember that I used to buy some pipettes that I put all over his back against his hair, that controlled the ticks a little bit. After a while Oso got sick and died.

Después de un largo tiempo llegó Goodi, una cachorra de apenas un mes. Una mestiza muy activa, con ella tuve mucho cuidado. Fumigaba constantemente los patios de la casa, para eso utilizaba amitraz. Todos los exteriores de la casa los mantenía controlados. Con ella utilice uno de los mejores collares antipulgas, kiltix de Bayer. La presentacion de este collar variaba según el peso del animal, se lo colocaba y para bañarla se le quitaba. La duración era más de seis meses. El control de parásitos como pulgas y garrapatas era total. Para mí era una opción excelente y aún digo que es el mejor collar para el control de parásitos externos.

After a long time Goodi arrived, a puppy of only one month old. A very active mongrel, I was very careful with her. I constantly fumigated the patios of the house, for that I used amitraz. All the outside of the house I kept under control. With her I used one of the best flea collars, kiltix from Bayer. The presentation of this collar varied according to the weight of the animal, I put it on and took it off to bathe her. It lasted more than six months. The control of parasites such as fleas and ticks was total. For me it was an excellent option and I still say it is the best collar for external parasite control.

No sé qué sucedió que nunca más lo volví a encontrar en mi ciudad, al parecer lo dejaron de distribuir. Así que una vez más me quedé sin opciones, y me mantuve fumigando los espacios y le aplicaba amitraz en menor concentración a ella al finalizar su baño, sin embargo por hacerlo de manera recurrente estuvo enferma de la piel.

I don't know what happened that I never found it again in my city, apparently they stopped distributing it. So once again I ran out of options, and I kept fumigating the spaces and applied amitraz in lower concentration to her at the end of her bath, however by doing it recurrently she was sick of the skin.

Al pasar un tiempo incorpore la cipermetrina para fumigar los patios, y estuve intercambiando entre el amitraz y la cipermetrina, con el fin de que las pulgas y garrapatas no se hicieran resistentes al producto, al alternarlos lograba un mejor resultado.

After some time I incorporated cypermethrin to fumigate the yards, and I was interchanging between amitraz and cypermethrin, so that the fleas and ticks would not become resistant to the product, alternating them achieved a better result.

Finalmente rescato a Lotta y adopto a Pantera, con esto forme una mini manada de tres. Fue una locura ya que debía luchar por mantener el control en los espacios y a ellas libres de garrapatas. Pantera cayó con una erlichia una enfermedad que produce la garrapata. Se recuperó y desde ese entonces empecé a buscar en el mercado algo que me garantizara que estuvieran totalmente limpias. Recuerdo que apenas iba saliendo Bravecto, una pastilla con sabor que se le suministra directamente su presentación es masticable, viene según el peso del perro sin embargo no habían llegado al país, muy pocas personas la conocían.

Finally I rescued Lotta and adopted Pantera, with this I formed a mini pack of three. It was crazy as I had to fight to keep control of the spaces and keep them tick free. Pantera came down with erlichia, a tick-borne disease. He recovered and from then on I started to search the market for something that would guarantee that they would be totally clean. I remember that Bravecto was just coming out, a pill with flavor that is given directly to the dog, its presentation is chewable, it comes according to the weight of the dog, however it had not arrived to the country, very few people knew about it.

Al tiempo logré comprarlas y fue perfecto, de hecho el pelaje les luce brillante. Ya tengo varios años usándolas, el efecto dice que dura tres meses sin embargo veo que el efecto en este caso dura hasta 7 meses asumo que ha sido por el uso continuo.

In time I managed to buy them and it was perfect, in fact the coat looks shiny. I have been using them for several years now, the effect says that it lasts three months, however I see that the effect in this case lasts up to 7 months, I assume that it has been due to the continuous use.

Sin embargo desde hace más de un año Pantera empezó a presentar ciertos episodios donde perdía la fuerza y no podía caminar, al principio pensé que era una convulsión, le duraba unos segundos tal vez minutos se recuperaba y luego se incorporaba. Nunca he tenido tiempo de grabarla, la lleve al médico la revisaron se le hicieron exámenes de sangre y todo estaba en perfecto orden, el médico me dijo que por lo que yo describía no era una convulsión sino parecía un episodio de hipoglicemia, esto se repitió un par de veces más, llevaba la cuenta y pasaba aproximadamente en periodos de cuatro meses. Hace un par de meses tome la decisión de no suministrarle más Bravecto, ya que luego de pensar mucho esa fue la única variación que ella ha tenido y luego de eso empezó a presentar estos episodios. Por eso en esta ocasión a ella le compré un collar de la marca Preventic yo la había utilizado y da buenos resultados. Tiene una duración de tres meses el efecto repelente.

I have never had time to record it, I took her to the doctor, she was checked, blood tests were done and everything was in perfect order, the doctor told me that from what I described it was not a seizure but it seemed to be an episode of hypoglycemia, this was repeated a couple of times more, I kept count and it happened approximately in periods of four months. A couple of months ago I made the decision not to give her Bravecto anymore, since after much thought that was the only variation she has had and after that she started having these episodes. That is why this time I bought her a Preventic necklace, I had used it and it gives good results. The repellent effect lasts for three months.

Así que la tenemos en observación para confirmar que lo que le producía la reacción donde perdía la fuerza y parecía desmayarse era la pastilla de Bravecto.

Cada animal es un universo, aún y cuando con Pantera se me presentaron esos problemas creo en la eficacia del producto ya que con Lotta y Goodi ha sido perfecto y están en perfectas condiciones.

Tenemos más de tres años sin ningún problema de parásitos externos, sanas y con un pelaje brillante. Cualquier problema de piel o alergia desapareció por completo.

We have more than three years without any problem of external parasites, healthy and with a shiny coat. Any skin or allergy problem disappeared completely.

Así que mis aliados en este transitar sin duda han sido bravecto y el collar. Desde que empecé su uso no tuve necesidad de fumigar ningún espacio. El baño lo hago solo con shampoo cosmético.

So my allies in this transition have undoubtedly been bravecto and the collar. Since I started using it, I have not had to fumigate any space. I only use cosmetic shampoo for bathing.

Por los momentos estoy atenta con Pantera, este mes de febrero debería repetir el episodio sin embargo la hemos notado en perfecto estado estos meses y todo apunta que la mejor decisión ha sido dejar de suministrarle la pastilla.

At the moment I'm keeping an eye on Pantera, this month of February should repeat the episode, however we have noticed her in perfect condition these months and everything indicates that the best decision has been to stop giving her the pill.

Así que les iré contando más adelante como evoluciona, ya que puede ser de mucha ayuda para otro amiguito peludo que pueda estar pasando por la misma situación.
