Dupuytren's contracture
A contratura de Dupuytren é um enrijecimento progressivo das bandas do tecido fibroso (denominadas fáscias) no interior das palmas das mãos, provocando a contração dos dedos que pode acabar resultando em uma mão com aspecto de garra.

A contratura de Dupuytren desenvolve-se em pessoas predispostas geneticamente e no meu caso o meu avô materno que se chamava Joaquim Teodoro tinha essa doença nas duas mãos, ele dizia que tinha sido originado por ter ficado com as mãos agarradas no suporte de uma lâmpada com defeito e que lhe causou uma eletrocuçao tendo sido salvo porque rapidamente desligaram a corrente elétrica da fábrica de conservas MARIO LEDO na cidade de Setúbal em Portugal onde ele trabalhava como mestre.
Normalmente, os sintomas incluem a formação de um nódulo na palma da mão e a curvatura dos dedos. Como podem ver na foto eu tenho o dedo anelar da mão esquerda completamente comprometido já sem poder endireitar, o que me impede de usar com eficiência a mão na minha atividade de mecânico de máquinas de costura industriais.
O tratamento em fase inicial da doença pode envolver a injeção de um corticosteroide em um nódulo sensível ou, se a mão já estiver cicatrizada, como é a minha situação, a injeção de uma colagenase em um nódulo (prática médica não autorizada aqui no Brazil pela agência reguladora que é a ANVISA) ou a cirurgia para corrigir os dedos contraídos em garra que é a única alternativa que me sobra.
Não me lembro quando começou esta doença mas acho que pode ter sido causada também por um trauma quando bati com a palma da mão numa faca que estava a cortar um peixe que eu preparava para cozinhar.

Dupuytren's contracture is a progressive stiffening of the bands of fibrous tissue (called fasciae) inside the palms of the hands, causing the contraction of the fingers that can eventually result in a hand with a claw-like appearance.
I have Dupuytren's contracture
Dupuytren's contracture develops in genetically predisposed people and in my case my maternal grandfather who was called Joaquim Teodoro had this disease in both hands, he said it was originated by having his hands grabbed on the support of a defective lamp and that it caused him an electrocution having been saved because they quickly turned off the electric current of the MARIO LEDO canning factory in the city of Setúbal in Portugal where he worked as a master.
Normally, the symptoms include the formation of a nodule in the palm of the hand and the curving of the fingers. As you can see in the photo I have the ring finger of my left hand completely compromised already without being able to straighten it, which prevents me from using my hand efficiently in my activity as an industrial sewing machine mechanic.
The initial treatment of the disease may involve the injection of a corticosteroid into a sensitive nodule or, if the hand is already scarred, as is my situation, the injection of a collagenase into a nodule (medical practice not authorized here in Brazil by the regulatory agency that is ANVISA) or surgery to correct the fingers contracted in claw that is the only alternative that I have left.
I don't remember when this disease started but I think it may also have been caused by a trauma when I hit the palm of my hand on a knife that was cutting a fish that I was preparing to cook.
