The beauty of "ordinary" things.

Not often that I can get a young Giant Carpenter bee on my camera.
075.jpg

But first let me show you some other lovely photos.

Our weather is overcast today and they tell us that we will have rain tomorrow and Thursday. So I will miss shots of another full moon. Be that as it may, I will simply continue to get other shots to show you in my posts.
Hope that you will enjoy this one.

A Cherry-eye Sprite, Damselfly, on a lotus flower bud in the water.
087.jpg

Another Cherry-eye Sprite (Pseudagrion sublacteum) on a water lily leaf.
088.jpg

Here he is, a baby Giant Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa flavorufa) on a flower.
154.jpg

And another shot of him on the same flower.
148.jpg

Just a lovely fountain shot again as I love how the water dances in the wind.
082.jpg

Oh yes, this is how our day started and now the skies are darkening in response to the rain that will fall tomorrow.
001.jpg

They envisage that rain will start at 7am tomorrow morning and that it will continue throughout the day. But I can tell them that the rain will not be very intense.
Now how could I know this, as I have no measuring instruments?

Well the halo around the sun today is not as intense as it is before the violent storms.
Have a look at how bleak the halo is.
050.jpg

It is when the inner ring is a dark blue and the outer ring is bright colors that we have to worry about a gale force storm. So we will only have light rain tomorrow.
The best is that then I can still go out to get photos.

And That's All Friends!

Nice captures on dragon flies and bumble bee, bumble bee wings appear to reflect colour of flower it's sitting on.

Overcast and raining here as well, definitely does not look like we will see a full moon once again either!

!LUV to the family
!BEER and !PIZZA to cheer one up.

Thank you Lady Joan, it's a Damselfly and a Carpenter bee.
My fault as I just edited the damselfly after the Sprite name.
There are no Bumblebees in South Africa. The European Bumble bee is often confused with a South African Carpenter bee. They look similar but they are not the same.

!BEER !PIZZA and !LUV to all of you.

Had them carpenter bees around this summer (still refer to them as bumble bees, bumbling around), fly too high to photograph... tease you from below!

Plenty of dragonflies up and out enjoying themselves after the rainfall, also not settling more zig-zag flight around ones head. Big coppery red ones in colour, identifying them is your game....

I get the carpenter bees on the flowers that they like Lady Joan and we have many of those flowers around here.

Big coppery red ones in KZN sounds like either the Broad Scarlet, or I prefer the Red Groundling.
There are also a few other possibilities, but you will have to get one on your camera to show me.

Those are wonderful ❤️ You referred to the bee as him, is it a drone???

Thank you. I don't have an idea if it's a male or a female as the sexes of the Giant Carpenter bees are both black. But I do know that the female is bigger that the male. So I presumed this one is a drone

That's pretty rare then :) From what I know about bees, we usually only see the females who collect pollen!

Oh yes and the carpenter bees are not bees as such. They are isolated and they don't have hives. So they never have swarms and they also don't make honey.

Then they're really a fat type of wasp????

No, they are not a type of wasp and they cannot sting either.
Carpenter bees are of the family "Anthophridea", and the family has now been renamed to "Apidae".
There are 36 species in this family.

Google will tell you more about them.
