A visit to the pond.

Late afternoon on a hot day here in South Africa.

There they were in the pond and we came to check up on the Egyptian goose babies.

Not our Harry and Sally, as these are in a different area, and the guy might be Harry's cousin lol.
Colors seem to be enhanced by the late sun and I also struggled a bit with the reflections of the sunlight on the water. But I think that there are a few good shots in here.

The three photos below were taken at the right hand side of the pond.

Marian counted the goslings (babies) first and there were only 7, so another one was gone.

And here they were moving over to the left hand side of the pond.

So we walked around and this Cape sugarbird sat watching us (Promerops cafer).
He had a bath in the pond.

A beautiful bird as he prepared to take off here.

The geese rounded the island and I had an idea where they would land, so we walked ahead to a spot and waited.

My idea worked and here you can see that I was much closer to them. That's my shadow.
128.jpg

And even closer and oh, the babies are beautiful.

Then we retraced our steps and left them alone as it was getting late and they close the reserve at 5pm.

Seven is a good number, as they are getting bigger by the day. The more that they grow, the less their predators become and once they can fly it is only the big raptor birds that are a danger.
So we hope that they will survive and we will continue to pop in from time to time to watch their progress.

And That's All Friends!

Birds are enjoying life on the pond, did you see the turtles ever again, looks like the same pond mentioned in earlier posts.

Being close to such wonderful spots in nature really a massive bonus being out there Stephen.

Yes, it's the same pond at the nature reserve which is close by. We did see one small turtle and I got one bad shot because of the sun's reflection on the water. Taking photos there in the late sun is most difficult.

We have many more dams here and it's only a matter of time before I get to most of them. Some are on private farms and they are the best for photography, but it is difficult to get entry.
It is indeed a bonus to be able to get so many places that my camera loves hehehe.
