A real old masterpiece.

Come, let me take you back to 1948.
021_li.jpg

A time of no mobile phones, internet or any of the other modern "luxuries". In the rural areas some visitors could even arrive at your house on horseback.
These old cars were seen as the ultimate and there were no dreams of the flimsy lightweight cars that we drive today.

Yes, this is a 1948 Oldsmobile in pristine original condition.
020.jpg

014.jpg

015.jpg

Marian saw an old gent getting out of the car, but by the time that we found a parking space for our car and I rushed over, he was gone.
I would have liked to ask him about the history of this old car.

016_li.jpg

018_li.jpg

So as we arrived back at home I started some research and found this:

The Series 60 "Special" is a full-size car made by Oldsmobile from the 1939 through the 1948 model years. It was their entry-level model using the GM "A" body platform, giving Oldsmobile an entry level product with more standard features that would be optional on Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles using the same platform.

Initially, the engine size used was the company's flat head 6 cylinder, while senior models would use the flat head 8 cylinder. For marketing purposes, the Oldsmobile Series 60, or the Oldsmobile 66, took advantage of the national highway U.S. Route 66 established in 1926.

It was with this generation that all GM vehicles experienced increased width dimensions to accommodate three passengers on the front bench seat and an additional three passengers on rear bench seat installed vehicles.

I think it's pretty amazing that Oldsmobile felt that this was their entry level car! Damn! I'd love to be driving around in that.

My feeling also whenever I see one of them and there are quite a few around here.

Thank you JJ and yes, it is a big mission to restore one of these old steel horses.
That's why the original always look so much better and they also have higher values.

That's a real beauty of a car from an era when people had much more time to enjoy life. It's very well preserved, you can see that the old gent takes care of his car - great post as always, Zac 😀

Thank you Hannes and yes, I could see that the car was treasured. So amazing after so many years.
Just goes to show how people can look after things that they love.
Glad that you liked the post 😊

Yep, some people take more care of their things than others. If I had such a car I would also take care that it would stay in such a condition. Of course then I would have a house with a garage 😏
You're so right, if you love something you take more care.

Especially the old guys Hannes.
They were raised in an era when they were taught to cherish and appreciate their possessions.
Very much not like today where their are so many throw away items on the markets.

Same like you do with your HD Sportser 😘

Cheers and thanks.

Right, my friend, I was raised later and I have to admit, that I do not care that much, but I do know the value of the things and I do care much more than the youth nowadays.

Yes, it's about the same, but if I would really care like that guy I wouldn't ride that much because my 3 years old bike sounds like a 10 years old one 😂 it is well maintained though.

I really think that all of the take-aways and comfortable processed foods are responsible for the quick non care life that we all lead now Hannes.
So many people don't even cook anymore, as they buy boxes of Pizzas and after eating they simply throw the boxes away.

In the old days we had nice home cooked meals, but these days they are scarce. Just as scarce as care for the real things that we own.
Thank goodness I have nothing valuable and don't even wear a watch 😘

Well if your bike is maintained and I know that it is, then you can frequently ride if for many more years. It is Harley after all and they make good bikes.

Cheers and thanks.

That's what I hate most - these fast food boxes and bags are everywhere. They throw them out of the car windows when they have eaten.

Sometimes we also eat a burger, but although I like the taste somehow, I wouldn't want to have it more often.

My wife mostly cooks fresh, but of course we have frozen pizza and such things in the fridge. I also don't wear a watch :)

Yep, a Harley lasts certainly longer than a Japanese bike :)

You are so right Hannes and near the sea it is even worse as the rivers bring all of the litter from inland down to the ocean. With this mighty wind around most of our trees and fences looks like they have been made up for Christmas with plastic bags hanging in them.

Same here, but we don't eat take away burgers as we eat them at the places where we order them. Marian also likes Pizza, but me not so much.
We are twins in the watch respect 😘

Fresh is the way to go and we try to buy directly from the farms around here, the produce in the supermarkets are frozen and they lose most of their nutrition values methinks.

Yes, you have a good point here as Harley has a great reputation for endurability.

Cheers and thanks.

Sounds funny with the plastic in the trees, but it isn't.

I need fork and knofe to eat burgers, so we mainly eat them at home. I prefer Spaghetti to Pizza, but a real Italian or a self made Pizza is awesome delicious 😋

We buy fresh food mostly in the supermarkets. At the farms it's much too expensive, and the lokal supermarkets offer fresh meat and vegetables from the farmers around too.

I really hate those sights my friend 😡

Me too, but we eat burgers at reputable restaurants with nice seating and proper spanners for me to eat with 😘
Only the Pizza that a Portuguese friend of mine made was excellent in my mind and that was years ago in another part of the country. The flat Pizza's nowadays look like flat flying saucers 🤣

Nope, our country has a huge population and supermarkets have to but large stocks to be able to serve everyone. The stocks are stored in cold freezer rooms where it sits until it runs out and then the new supplies go the same way.
Our farmers are also pricey and the strange thing is that even if some organic farmers save on all of the chemical expenses, their prices are more than anyone else. I think that it is the organic name that keeps their prices high. Same with the health breads, as they also cost a fortune.

I so long back to my early years on the farm where everything was fresh and homemade.

Cheers and thanks.

I know, Zac, and I hate every single piece of waste that people throw on the ground when they go for a walk or for a hike to enjoy nature 😣

Here you can see the butcher through a glass window in many supermarkets, but of course there's also frozen meat and food which is cheaper.

The organic food is most expensive here too. I'm no farmer, but I think they can't grow that much and what grows that grows slower. The same applies to the animals in my eyes. That's why they are more expensive, but also because organic food is fancy and healthy, of course ... as with every expensive brand, the "organic" brand makes a higher price, just as you say.

Oh yes, I remember the fresh meat from the neighbor farmer, the milk was still warm from the cow and the salad was 10 minutes before lunch still growing in the garden.

I get sick when I see a guy wind his window down while driving and throwing an empty packet out into the street. So now I want to get a cheap cam recorder fitted into our car to catch them on camera and to report them.

Oh yes, our supermarkets also have butchers, buy I have never spoken to one. We discovered a small butchery that makes special meats, a bit pricey but great meat.

Brand names are the sellers these days Hannes and the word "organic" has a healthy ring to ones ears.
So even many no organic things are named as organic here to get the sales. And expensive as you say.
Fresh today is pasted on most vegetables, even if they were harvested 2 months ago and foods were "genetically modified" called GM foods to last longer on the supermarket shelves.

Nothing can beat real fresh milk and real self grown vegetables my friend. Pity that we cannot keep a cow in the town 🤣
But you have given me an idea, as maybe I can buy a cow and rent a space for it on one of the farms here. Then I can go and milk it every day and charge the farmer a fee for my cow's lawnmower services every month 🤣

Cheers and thanks,

I don't know what these people think. I could never throw anything out of the window - it's dangerous for the cars behind, but foremost it's destroying our nature.

Organic, fresh and other healthy things cost, and people pay, although many things arenot as healthy as they believe.
Genetically modified food it getting more and more and one day you will have to search for "normal" grown vegetables. I don't wonder anymore why the people nowadays are more often sick than when we were young.

... and you could also charge him for using the poo of the cow to fertilize his fields 🤣🤣🤣 !LOLZ

We keep a trash bag in the car and nothing goes out of the windows. Maybe they should make trash bags compulsory in all cars over here.

Best thing will be to grow our own vegetables my friend and we are all starting to do that now.
Organic veggies cost nothing if they are homegrown and the benefit is that they are fresh and healthy.

Ah yes and I agree, so now I will start to save up bucks to get a cow. It can become a small milk sales business 🤣🤣🤣

Cheers and thanks.

We have also a trash bag in the car and your idea is great. Actually, I remember to have seen such already, but I can't remember which brand of car it was.

Yep, and I wish you the biggest veggies of all ✌️

Every big company has started small - I remember a guy who started his software business in his garage...

Thank you and yes, the car makers must forced to place little bins in their new models with a little label "Trash" on the lid. Enough space for a removable bag.
They can even create a new income by selling trash bags with their logos on to fit into the bins.
But then we will see bags with logos like Mercedes laying in all of the roads.

The answer to that is to also print the registration number of every car on it's bags, so that when a person picks it up in the road they can hand it to the authorities that will trace the number and arrest the littering owner.
Empty dreams methinks 😭

No, we are only two and so I don't need big veggies mate 😜

Hahaha, I will start my small business in somebody else's field 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

So you think I would use a registered bag if I want to throw the bag out of the window? I would wait till you sleep and steal a few bags from your car and use them 🤣

That wouldn't work here because a number plate doesn't stay on the car. You buy it unregistered and must register it then. When you sell the car, the plates go back or you register them for your new car.

In somebody else's field? Then you migh thave to share your veggies with that person and later, when you have made enough money you can buy the field 😀

(Edited)

That's the problem Hannes, as nobody would use the registered bags and just continue as before, to throw things out of the windows.

No they won't use the number plates to register, but rather the VIN number of the car.
You would steal them out of my car??? I think that you will do great if you stayed in this country 🤣
You can teach the thieves how to steal 🤣🤣🤣

Yep, this is a great business idea and let's just pray that a lightning bolt will not strike my cow, as this seems to be my luck 🤣
The witchdoctor will charge me a fortune to make the cow alive again 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

You think I could do such a teacher job and get money for it? But I would be afraid that after school they would steal their money back from me 🤣

If the lightning bolt strikes your cow you still can make a barbecue for the whole village and probably make a lot more money than with milk, buy two new cows and hope for a storm 😂 ... no witchdoctor needed.

Nope, they will just ask politely for their money back after that they come back from prison 🤣

So now I will then be able to expand my business, from a dairy to include a meat supplier 😲
I will keep the one cow inside to continue supplying the milk and I will leave the other cow outside and pray for a storm. Brilliant idea young man 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Well, if they get caught and are imprisoned, I was a bad teacher and of course they will get their money back 😁

Cheers and thanks.

80% is less than 100% - getting 20% for your work is better than nothing - do you need someone who feeds the cows and milks them? I would take only 19%😂
