Repotting Day For My Succulents and Lilies

I have been so incredibly busy lately with my "real" job and also picking up an extra part time gig here and there that I haven't had the time to repot several succulents I recently bought. In addition to the succulents, I bought an Asiatic Lily that needing repotting as well, along with a traditionally orchid to go with my "air" orchid I bought last week. I haven't written much about houseplant and flowers on Hive, but trust me when I say I don't have high hopes for the orchids.....lololol Let's just leave it at, I have a "history" so to speak with orchids and it is a dark, dark chapter from many formerly thriving orchids lololol In legal terms, I may, or may not, be classified as a "serial" murderer of orchids, but I always have hope when I see how majestic they are in the store that this time will be different.....time will prove me wrong! lolol

Now succulents on the other had are much more forgiving of my lack of talent in keeping plants alive and that's why I tend to gravitate towards them. Prior to moving up to my current location I had several "hen and biddie" succulents that were close to 20 years old before a rather harsh winter sent them to plant heaven several years after moving up here. I replaced them with some cuttings from my boss' mom and they are doing ok, but no where near as vibrant as my original ones. I'll write about them one day.

I have also always been fairly fascinated with lilies as well and there were some beautiful amber and burnt orange ones for sale the other day when I bought the (soon to be in the afterlife) orchid. I had several that were planted in ground in S. Georgia and so I wanted to have some new ones here that would be potted in the event that I ever move again, they can go with me.

It didn't take very long at all today to get all the plants sorted and into their new containers. My wife found some sleek modern pots at Target several weeks ago and it was a toss up between the new pots and some she had made many years ago. Most of interior decor is modern in style, so I decided to go with the new pots. It also helped my decision that the new pots had built in excess water lips in the bottom and the pots she made would have to be drilled and placed in a plastic overflow lid.

The lilies were going into a basic black plastic outdoor pot and I added a layer of gravel in the bottom just in case the drain holes and excess water lip became plugged for whatever reason as a way to keep the root system from developing any issues. The lilies ended up being three separate bulbs and I can't wait for them to bloom!

Overall, I am extremely happy how all the plants and pots turned out. I just need to clean up the excess soil from the succulent pots. I have them transferred inside and the are all resting comfortably for the moment. Well, all except the orchids who seem to have a very concerned look on their faces. I hope the other plants have not been telling my secrets of orchids who have passed this way before!!! lololol Thanks for taking the time to read my post and remember that I love you all and I hope you are the "succulent" in someone's day!!!

Ah a fellow grower! (I don't have succulents just gardening) - Looking good homie, you're a good dude. Well Im biased because anyone who takes time to give back in to the world with flowers or food, is cool by me.

Also the word succulent is dope...a little too dope! XD Great post man!

I don't know if I deserve the title, "grower" lololol I've probably killed more than I've grown lolol But I do love it. Not too many people IRL know about my love of plants, but Hive is family, right!?!?!

and yes, yes succulent is a pretty decent word! lololol

Well...if you grow anything, then you're growing something...which makes you a....grower! Sorry being difficult, but yes even if you kill something in the progress of learning, the positive intent comes back to you with experience and wisdom on how to move forward.

Thanks for sharing man, online it's hard to show pieces of ourselves because of well..ya know how it is online. Things like this though, should be shared thanks again!

I spent a lot of time yesterday potting and repotting too. It was a good day for it. Your succulents are looking great!

It really was a great day for it here as well. I'm just hoping I do better with the orchids than I have historically lololol

Do plants make you happy? They do me...I like walking amongst them, touching them. I love flowers the most, but there's something so beautiful about plants, the way they grow and how the look...I love them all. I've not had huge success with orchids though I'm sad to say.

They bring me immense joy and I hate that I've gotten away from being so active with planting.

Orchids are little temperamental divas and I hate that I love them so much! lololol

Love and hate...That's the natural order of things; some lean too far one way or the other though I suppose and then the lines can become blurred.
