Blooming Steamed Cake

Hi bloggers and food lovers, today I’m going to share a sweet treat recipe that’s perfect for gatherings or weekend snacks, it's called bolu kukus. This sweet treat is quite popular in my city because of its sweet taste and its flower-like shape. Let’s get right to it!

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams all-purpose flour
  • 250 grams sugar
  • 1 tbsp cake emulsifier
  • 5 eggs
  • mocha-flavored food coloring
  • 150 ml soda water
  • 1 packet vanilla powder

Instructions:

  • Prepare the eggs, sugar, cake emulsifier, and vanilla powder, then mix until fluffy

  • Once fluffy, gradually add the all-purpose flour

  • Once the batter becomes thicker and heavier, add the soda water

  • Mix again until well combined

  • Once combined and the batter becomes thinner, divide the batter into two portions

  • Add mocha-flavored food coloring to the first portion and original for another portion

  • Prepare a cake pan like this, line it with parchment paper, then add 1 tbsp of the plain batter

  • Then add 1 tbsp of the mocha-flavored batter on top of the plain batter, and repeat until the pan is full

  • Repeat the same process until all the batter is used up

  • Steam the batter for 25 minutes until the cake rises (cover the steamer with a cloth to prevent water droplets from falling on the cake)

  • Once it has risen, turn off the heat and let the steamed cake cool

  • The Blooming Steamed Cake cake is ready to eat
