What a special adventure it was that I experienced inside this fascinating museum, it was so much information that it was better to divide it into two posts! Today we are going to learn much more about the wonderful aquatic world, we will learn about the characteristics of some tropical and salt freshwater fish! Museums like this are a vital source for the general culture of a city, whenever we visit an aquarium we leave there with an apprenticeship!
LIFE IN THE WATER๐ฅ/ VIDA EN EL AGUA๐ก๐ ๐
This is my friend, life originated in water! what we know today as a lion, a primate all originated in water! life began as very simple organisms, chemical compounds that were taking evolutionary leaps for thousands of years! These compounds gave rise to simpler organisms such as sea sponges and starfish! In a period of time of 500 years, the famous chordate organisms with a more complex system appeared, they had a "backbone" that could form more complex organs! until the fish appeared and there life in the water became very complex!
Just look through small mirrors to realize how marine animals have a unique beauty in the animal kingdom! Inside the museum there is educational information everywhere! the goal is for you to learn new things, I had no idea that dolphins brush their mouths with sea sponges so as not to hurt themselves when looking for food on the seabed, it was a very interesting fact that is not commented on about these fantastic animals!
VARIOUS ECOSYSTEMS๐ฅ/ VARIEDADES DE ECOSISTEMAS๐ก๐ ๐
Sea sponges are very famous because since Roman times they were already given different uses, the most famous being the use as a bath sponge! and it is that marine sponges absorb water through the thousands of holes that their structure has, this is done to feed! There are many species of sponge that live in different areas of the seabed, from shallow waters to abyssal areas!
The Cnidarian phylum is incredible in which sea sponges, gorgonians, corals, jellyfish among others are organized! For example, gorgonians grow only 1cm per year, jellyfish for example have a sack-shaped body with a single mouth that also serves as an anus, they are incredible animals and sneaky hunters!
As you can see in this museum there is an exhibition of different types of aquatic systems, each space presents a different substrate and plants, including live rocks! This is interesting because the depth of the sea makes each ecosystem different, and although they share the same water space, they do not share the same depth characteristics!
While I do this tour I am learning more and more, within the museum the marine ecosystems of various regions of Portugal are used as an example, such as the Algarve, Sierra de la Arrabida! and in each space they show us different types of animals! This is because the temperatures in the ocean at these points have different scales!
Anemones and corals are fantastic animals that group together to live together and organize themselves at a structural level so that each animal performs a different function!
THE BEAUTY OF ANEMONES๐ฅ/ BELLEZA DE LAS ANEMONAS๐ก๐ ๐
We always see in movies how anenomas are associated with clownfish! and this is very true these animals have tentacles that store poison to hunt and protect themselves from predators! but what is the interest of the clown fish with them?
For the clownfish there is an excellent opportunity with the anemone since over the years it adapts immunity to the venom of the tentacles and uses the anemone as a refuge to protect itself from predators and the anemone sees an opportunity with the fish since it performs cleaning ! This relationship is called SYMBIOSIS, an advantageous interaction between two species!
Some animals are too strange! but that aspect that turns them into strange animals gives them an advantage and opportunity in the survival of the marine world that is a hostile terrain where everyone feeds on everyone!
I have never seen this orange animal, it is called a sea carrot, and it has a peculiarity is bioluminiscence! bone emits a light that can only be seen in the dark, many animals practice this method to attract food!
ESTUARY COMMUNITIES๐ฅ/ COMUNIDADES DE ESTUARIOS๐ก๐ ๐
An estuary is a body of water that has been mixed with fresh water, so let's imagine a river that flows into the sea, there is a point where the water stagnates and there is a mixture of sea salinity with the fresh water of the river that originates in the mountains thaw! These ecosystems are not totally salty or sweet, but they are home to truly amazing species!
PRESERVATION๐ฅ/PRESERVACION๐ก๐ ๐
Of course, in the museum they encourage us to preserve, this term refers to taking care of nature, we must always carry out a behavior where we can benefit from nature but respecting its biodiversity, we do this by recycling and not polluting!
And what should scare you the most is that the coastal seabed is so sensitive that if the temperature rises 1 degree, it brings catastrophic consequences because corals and all cnidarians are sensitive to water temperature! and when they disappear there is no turning back and nothing we can do to bring them back, this is called irreversible damage!
The museum is built in such a way that you have 180 degree access to many of the aquariums, for example we also visualize pools that allow us to see what the corals look like from a top view!
Surely you have ever seen barnacles, they are sessile animals that live embedded in rocks, this strategy is interesting because in the place where it is customary to position is the one where the waves beat hard on the rock, in that constant swell they take advantage to feed since they are filter feeders!
MICROLIFE๐ฅ/MICROVIDA๐ก๐ ๐
In the ocean there is not only macroscopic life such as fish, there is also very small life so small that it is only possible to see it in a microscope, they are grouped in zooplakton and phytoplankton, they are at the bottom of the trophic chain but they play an important role in sustainability Of the seas! among them we have brine shrimp and microalgae!
Rocks have various uses for many animals, for example crustaceans love to hide in them to escape from predators!
Life always tries to make its way to color all the spaces on the planet. It is common to see aquatic life in places where no other land animal could live! In short, aquatic organisms are more resistant than terrestrial ones!
VARIETIES OF COLORS๐ฅ/VARIEDAD DE COLORES๐ก๐ ๐
Many animals have cells in their body specialized for the absorption of light, this to produce energy!
SEA MONSTERS๐ฅ/MONSTRUOS MARINOS๐ก๐ ๐
But not everything is beautiful and friendly, in the great depths of the ocean where the light no longer comes and everything is darkness, monsters inhabit! for example this giant squid that for years was feared by browsers! There are many myths and stories about squid so big that they were capable of sinking ships!
AQUATIC BEAUTY๐ฅ/BELLEZA ACUATICA๐ก๐ ๐
FRESHWATER TROPICAL FISH ROOM๐ฅ/ VIDA TROPICAL๐ก๐ ๐
As we can see, seawater fish are more colorful and different than tropical freshwater fish, the coloration in the fish fulfills the same principle as any other animal "warning" tells its predators do not eat me or you may suffer the consequences !
WHAT OUR OCEAN LOOKS LIKE๐ฅ/ COMO LUCE EL OCEANO๐ก๐ ๐
Every year we emit pollution to our ocean to the point that there are areas where we only see plastic floating! microplastic is a serious issue that can currently be addressed by avoiding the consumption of plastic!
UNLIMITED LEARNING๐ฅ/ UN APRENDIZAJE SIN LIMITE๐ก๐ ๐
It is one of those experiences that is worth repeating, coming to this museum helped me open my mind more and be more aware of the current situation of the oceans! I learned many new things about a great diversity of species, I photographed new fish that I had never seen in my life!
HE MADE THIS ADVENTURE POSSIBLE๐จ๐จ๐ฅ/ EL HIZO POSIBLE LA AVENTURA๐ก๐ ๐
I say goodbye to my great adventure, and with it I pass by the office of Mr. Carlos I and I thank you for a great beautiful learning, without him this great feat would not have been possible!
