Hola amigos, por acá estoy nuevamente para mostrarles el avance de los trabajos de la restauración de dos sillas de ratán, no se si recordarán que en una de mis publicaciones les decía que iba a reparar dos sillas de ratán que mi hermana tenia guardadas desde hace 5 años y no sabia que hacer con ellas. También les decía que esa reparación sería mi gran reto, ya que nunca había reparado unas sillas de "Ratán" , les confieso que asumí este compromiso con ciertas dudas de poder hacerlo, más que todo, porque veía lo complicado del reemplazo del tejido, pero la verdad es, que no podemos decir que algo es difícil, sin antes intentarlo, así que asumí ese reto y después de varias horas de trabajo, al fin ayer pude terminar una de las dos sillas y la otra solo le apliqué el barniz para luego proceder a colocarle el tejido.

Si amigos, ayer entre cafecitos y cafecitos, pude terminar de reparar una de las dos sillas de ratán, la verdad es que el trabajo no era tan difícil como lo pensaba, pero si requería de mucha paciencia, "y sobre todo", hacerlo con mucho cuidado para no dañar el material. Este trabajo lo hice poco a poco, un ratico en la mañana y otro ratito en la tarde, en realidad no tenia apuros, porque no me importaba el tiempo que tardara en hacerlo, para mi lo importante era, que las sillas quedaran bien, y fíjense, ayer pude terminar una de las sillas, la verdad es que la silla se ve muy bien y elegante, a todos en mi casa les gustó la nueva apariencia de la silla, aun no se la he mostrado a mi hermana, porque quiero terminar la otra silla para darle una sorpresa, porque se que se va a sorprender cuando las vea.

But the truth is, you can't say something is difficult without trying it first, so I accepted the challenge and, after several hours of work, I finally finished one of the chairs yesterday. I only applied varnish to the other one, and then I'll proceed to replace the weaving.

Yes, friends, yesterday, between coffee and coffee, I managed to finish repairing one of the two rattan chairs. The truth is, the job wasn't as difficult as I thought, but it did require a lot of patience, and above all, great care to avoid damaging the material. I worked on it little by little, a bit in the morning and a bit in the afternoon. I wasn't in any hurry, because I didn't care how long it took. The important thing for me was that the chairs turned out well, and look, yesterday I finished one of them! The chair looks really nice and elegant. Everyone in my house liked its new look. I haven't shown it to my sister yet because I want to finish the other chair to surprise her. I know she'll be amazed when she sees them.

Después de quitarle todo el tejido dañado a las sillas, comencé a pintarla con tinte para madera y con barniz en spray para dejarlas listas para colocarles el tejido nuevo:

Bueno mis amigos, antes de comenzar a colocar el tejido, primero tuve que conseguir una varilla o espiga de madera la cual servirá para apretar el tejido dentro de la ranura que lleva el borde de la silla, esta espiga la logre fabricar de una palma seca de coco y la verdad es que funcionó muy bien.

Well my friends, before starting to place the weaving, I first had to get a wooden rod or dowel which would serve to tighten the weaving inside the groove that the edge of the chair has. I managed to make this dowel from a dried coconut palm and the truth is that it worked very well.

Bueno amigos, después de cortar la tela de ratán, lo segundo que haré, será la colocar en la ranura del borde de la silla, la cola blanca de carpintería, luego de esto se coloca el tejido y se hunde la orilla de este tejido en la ranura, yo hundí toda la orilla con el uso de una paleta de madera, después que toda la orilla del tejido este dentro de la ranura se procede a colocar la espiga dentro de dicha ranura procurando que apriete bien el tejido.

Okay, folks, after cutting the rattan webbing, the next thing I'll do is apply wood glue to the groove on the chair's edge. Then, the webbing is placed in the groove, and the edge is tucked in. I tucked the entire edge in with a wooden spatula. Once the entire edge of the webbing is inside the groove, the dowel is inserted, making sure it's tight against the webbing.

Bueno mis amigos, les confieso que estoy muy contento con este resultado, esta primera silla luce muy bien con su nuevo tejido de ratán, de manera que este reto esta casi superado, y digo "CASI" porque aun me falta la otra silla, aunque esta bastante adelantada, ya que hoy le aplique el tinte para madera y el barniz, el cual para mañana debería de estar totalmente seco para proceder a colocar el tejido, lo importante es que con la experiencia de la primera silla, pude aprender algunos trucos, por lo que ahora este tejido lo colocaré más rápido que el de la primera silla.

Well, my friends, I confess that I'm very happy with this result. This first chair looks great with its new rattan weave, so this challenge is almost over. I say "ALMOST" because I still have the other chair to do, although it's quite far along. Today I applied the wood stain and varnish, which should be completely dry by tomorrow so I can proceed to put on the weave. The important thing is that with the experience of the first chair, I was able to learn some tricks, so now I'll put on this weave faster than I did on the first chair.

Creo que etiquetar algo como "difícil" antes de intentarlo, es como ponernos una barrera que de alguna manera nos va a limitar nuestro potencial, muchas veces no nos atrevemos a hacer algo, no porque sea difícil, sino porque nos da miedo fallar, pero lo que debemos saber es que si lo intentamos y no lo conseguimos, al menos ganamos una valiosa experiencia, así que, no vale decir "no puedo", mejor di "lo intentaré" con esta acción aprenderemos muchas cosas, eso si, la perseverancia juega un papel importante en esta acción, les confieso que cuando vi el tejido de las sillas, me pareció difícil, pero aun así, dije: "Lo intentaré" como decía un amigo " echando a perder algunas cosas también se aprende" Saludos .....

I think labeling something as "difficult" before even trying it is like putting up a barrier that will limit our potential. Often we don't dare to do something, not because it's difficult, but because we're afraid of failing.
