Seen my college again

El martes pasado quise hacer algo fuera de mi rutina, así que fui de curiosa a la universidad donde estudié y de la cual me gradué, se preguntarán ¿para qué ir a la universidad si ya te graduaste? Pues el lado bueno de estudiar música es que siempre tendrás cosas nuevas que aprender.

El móvil principal de mi visita fue que mi amiga Raquel me invitó a asistir a las clases de Ensamble y de Análisis Rítmico del profesor Willy Diaz, quien fue mi maestro de batería en la uni, un músico excelente del cual no paro de aprender cosas nuevas todo el tiempo y a quien le guardo mucho cariño porque maestros como él hay pocos en el país, super dispuestos a enseñar con humildad y quien siempre esta actualizando su arsenal de recursos para la enseñanza musical.

Aproveché la visita para ver clases con el maestro y también ponerme al día con la situación actual de la UNEARTE. Por lo que me contaron los estudiantes el tema del transporte hacia la universidad esta complicado, ya no hay comedor, el segundo edificio tiene la mayoría de sus espacios cerrados por completo, y creo (aun no me falta corroborar al 100%) que tampoco hay internet en la sede de música.

Estas malas noticias no me sorprendieron del todo porque desde hace tiempo vengo escuchando que la universidad ha ido en decadencia, pero ir a visitar y verlo con mis propios ojos me dio algo de sentimiento, sobre todo el ver que el cubículo de batería donde solía ensayar todos los días se encuentra totalmente clausurado, sin pase ni acceso.

La buena noticia es que ahora la batería se encuentra en otro salón que está mucho más ventilado que la sala anterior, por lo cual los estudiantes actuales no sufrirán tanto de humedad como los de las cortes anteriores.

Lo que si me resulta terrible es que no haya internet en una universidad, recuerdo que en mis años de estudio muchísimas veces utilicé el internet para cualquier investigación o repertorio que debía practicar, el hecho de que esta nueva corte no tenga internet a la mano me parece una desventaja considerable sobre todo estando en una institución educativa.

Por mi parte disfruté volver ir a estudiar y conectar con viejos amigos, espero ir mas seguido a la universidad y traerles mas anécdotas del lugar.

Last Tuesday I wanted to do something out of my routine, so I went to the university where I studied and from which I graduated, you may wonder why go to college if you already graduated? Well, the good side of studying music is that you will always have new things to learn.

The main reason for my visit was that my friend Raquel invited me to attend the classes of Ensemble and Rhythmic Analysis by Professor Willy Diaz, who was my drum teacher back in school, an excellent musician from whom I do not stop learning new things all the time and to whom I am very fond of because there are few teachers like him in the country, super willing to teach with humility and who is always updating his arsenal of resources for teaching music.

I took advantage of the visit to see classes with the teacher and also to catch up with the current situation of the UNEARTE. From what the students told me, the transportation to the university is complicated, there is no more dining room, the second building has most of its spaces completely closed, and I believe (I have yet to corroborate 100%) that there is no internet in the music building either.

This bad news didn’t surprise me at all because I have been hearing for a long time that the university has gone downhill, but going to visit and see it with my own eyes gave me some feeling, especially to see that the drum room where I used to rehearse every day is completely closed, with no pass and no access.

The good news is that now the drums are in another room that is much more ventilated than the previous room, so the current students will not suffer as much humidity as those of the previous courts.

What I do find terrible is that there is no internet in a university, I remember that in my years of study many times I used the internet for any research or repertoire I had to practice, the fact that this new group of students doesn’t have internet at hand seems to me a considerable disadvantage especially being in an educational institution.

For my part I enjoyed going back to study and connect with old friends, I hope to go more often to the university and bring you more anecdotes of the place.
