From Câmara de Lobos to Ponta do Garajau - Funchal // Madeira Island

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

From Câmara de Lobos to Ponta do Garajau.jpg

There is a world inside Madeira Island. As I told you here yesterday, it's not very big, we can get around the island by car in no time, but there is so much to see and do that it feels like we're in a huge tropical country.
For those who love hiking, there are trails for all tastes and for all people with different degrees of difficulty.
Around here they are called levadas. Since the temperature here is always mild, any time of year allows you to do these trails, but be very careful, my friends. There are very dangerous places and every year there is less pleasant news about those who suffer accidents here.

Believe me, there are places that are capable of taking your breath away and I don't say this because of the effort to get there, but rather because of their natural beauty, landscapes worthy of a film!
We started our day in Câmara de Lobos, which brought back memories of the Douro Vinheteiro but instead of facing the river, here, facing the sea. For me, gold on blue :-) Câmara de Lobos Bay is beautiful and the little boats, the "xavelhas", moored in the waving water make this place an idyllic setting.

If you come here around lunch time, take the opportunity to eat fresh fish and drink poncha.
Poncha da Madeira is a drink that symbolizes the tradition, history and culture of this Portuguese island. With its simple ingredients and refreshing flavor, it has won the taste of locals and visitors, becoming an icon of Madeira. Over time, Poncha has evolved, with new variations and flavors emerging, but its essence remains unchanged.

From here we continue to Praia das Pedrinhas (as the little girl says) or Praia de Almirante Reis. It's a stone and pebble beach that forms a bay, very beautiful but not at all comfortable, at least for me :-)
In the background we can also see a yellow building that is the São Tiago Fort or Yellow Fort as the color itself indicates.
We brought a pebble to remember our time here and add to our shells and whelks that we bring as specimens and to add to the rest at home.

We stopped for lunch and then continued on to the next tourist attraction: Cristo Rei.
To do this, we took a ten-minute drive to Ponta do Garajau, which is located in the Parcial do Garajau Natural Reserve.
This protected area is famous for its rich biological diversity and crystal clear waters, making it an ideal place to spot marine species such as turtles and dolphins.

The name of Miradouro do Cristo Rei derives from the impressive statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that dominates this area. This magnificent sculpture, inaugurated in 1927, is a striking element of the viewpoint's landscape and represents an important historical symbol of the region. With open arms, the sculpture of Jesus Christ faces the Atlantic Ocean, conveying a feeling of tranquility and serenity
The climb is not easy, but it is really worth it.
Today we stay here, tomorrow we will visit a different part of the island.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
