Broken Bonds: Growing up requires a lot.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. This week's prompt made me reminisce about memories with childhood friends, many of whom we still keep in touch with and many of whom we don't even know much about. Growing up, I got to realize that in order to make progress, one must continue to move, and moving means leaving friends behind.

Sometimes we move because of school; sometimes we move because of our families; and there are so many other reasons why we actually change locations, leaving friends who made our childhood fun. Sometimes I remember all the mischief we did as kids, and I say to myself, "We have a lot to confess when the time comes and we are opportune to reunite again.

I had a lot of people I rocked with during my childhood days, but I had just three that were my closest friends. Anytime you see one, that means the rest of us are nearby. The way we joined hands to fight whoever dares to cross our path with trouble still makes me laugh, especially the last fight, and I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

My three friends include Mustapha, Philemon, and Mordecai. My childhood with these three was really awesome. A lot of things we did were reported to our parents, but our parents never believed we could do such things and they believed the lie we told them. These were things that we really had to be punished for, but thank God for our innocent looks and good behavior when we are at home.

Sometimes we part ways in order to meet again, but some partings mean we will never get to see each other again, like in the case of Mustapha. We lost our dear friend a few years after my family and I moved from Yobe State to Cross River State. They said he was electrocuted. What hurts me the most is that we talked over the phone that day, and later that day he passed on, and I never knew that was the last time I was going to hear his voice.

Mordecai was more like my right-hand man; we did more mischief together compared to the others. Taking food from our houses to go and cook in the nearby bushes, not because we were hungry, and till date, I cannot say why we were really doing such a thing. I have not heard from him for some time now, but I know he is healthy and hearty, maybe just busy with school.

Philemon was the cool guy; we had to drag him in all the time. He needs to be convinced or given some kind of pep talk before he agrees to be part of any of our plans, especially missing Sunday school rehearsals. Instead of going to rehearsals, we head to the football pitch, and when it is time, we clean up and join the others on their way home.

I have not heard from my childhood friends for quite some time now, and I don't know what's up with them for now, but the last time we spoke, they were all in school studying the course of their dreams and hoping for a better tomorrow. We lost communication, but hopefully someday we will be reunited.

What will it be like if we are reunited?

I have always thought about it and imagined what it will be like if the rest of us can come together, even if it's just for a day. Maybe that will be the day we will confess all our sins to our parents and tell them about all our secrets, and hopefully it will be on the same day Mustapha died, so we can celebrate his remembrance as well.

Thanks for reading my post.

Mordecai, philemon. Looks like your friends where from the bible. Didn't know people bear those names.

I feel for Mustapha who was electrocuted. That was so much a horrible way to die. May his soul continue to rest in peace. I think you guys had to influence Philemon because of the kind of person he is. Lol
That is how it is for everyone. There will always one who doesn't want to be dragged into silly acts but somehow, they will be influenced.

Indeed it was painful because the whole electrocution process changed his looks and everything.

Thanks for reading.
