Random Mini-Village Deep in the Woods

Unexpected Find in the Woods

So I decided to go check out a trail in a forest nearby. I was told that it was actually wide and stable enough to take a good baby stroller down so it was perfect to take the little one out for a long walk. Generally I can get him to walk for quite a bit on his own, but eventually he gets pooped and needs to get back in the stroller.

Come inside! Have a cup of tea. Meet the misses.

About 20-25 minutes into the walk, I veered off on another path that looked interesting. I was a little worried that the trail would be too narrow, but I managed to get the stroller down it with out much effort. After another 15-20 minutes down this trail, I came upon a very random little 'elf' village.

Looks like it has been here for a while!

I have no idea how long this has all been here, but judging by how a lot of it is falling apart, I think it might have been a while. I found myself wondering if it was the act of one person, or if multiple people have been adding items over time. It is a real hodgepodge of items to be sure.

Aren't we cozy. A nice day to sit in the sun and relax.

I love the random castle there in the back. Because, you know, a castle really goes with the whole aesthetic here. This is the sort of thing that made me wonder if people were bringing things and adding to the scene. Look at me trying to rationalize this nonsensical arrangement.

Santa? Why not.

I mean, we have Santa Claus and the Snow Man for heaven's sake. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to this. This all brought back memories of when I was a little kid and used to fantasize that all of my toys would come to life after I went to sleep. I used to set up crazy scenes in my room and imagined that after I went to bed, the little world that I made would wake up and go about their days in the economy and environment that I had arranged for them. I have no idea why I did this.

Oops! I farted.. So sorry!

Of course it made perfect sense to paint a rock with a cartoon skunk and put it along with the village. This kind of reminds me of the randomness of Toon Town on Roger Rabbit. That actually gave me nightmares when I was a kid. You know, when the real people drove through the tunnel and entered Toon Town? That was the exact moment when I realized that no, I don't want to live in cartoon land.

Lower front view of the whole scene

As you can see, the entire village is protected by an impenetrable wooden fence. It must come in really handy to keep out all of the miniature predators that lurk around these woods at night. This reminds me of that Will Ferrel movie about the Eurovision contest. When he went to that little elf hut and was attacked by that bad guy who fell down dead. When Will Ferrell looked at his body, there was a tiny little knife in his back, and the he looked back and saw the elf hut door close. That shit made me laugh for like 10 minutes.

Above view

The scene comes complete with a swinging ladder that both leads to nowhere, and is completely impossible for any of the residents to reach. My apologist mind says that this is a result of a hurricane which destroyed most of the ladder and whatever structure it used to lead to.

I wonder if he is home?

Well that was an interesting little find. My son had a blast looking around this thing. His eyes got super big when he saw it since it stood out from all the surrounding plant life. I had to stop him from wrecking the place though. I will be interested to see if it is still there, or looks different the next time I take a trip down this hidden trail!

Sometimes it’s the most simplest things in life that is the most memorable. This all reminds me of my kids playing outside and I had to go and clean up after them. Lol.

By the way where was this?

What an interesting and cute find! 😃
I'm just wondering who took the time and effort to build it as I'm sure it must cheer up anyone who happens to find it.

I know, right? I love stuff like this.

Don't be fooled. That's a real city you found. They all just froze and pretended to not be real until you folks left.

That's pretty much what I thought. It explains why everything is a bit wonky. They didn't have time to get into a reasonable position before I noticed them.

I can tell they were caught off guard but again, don't be fooled. That whole wonky thing is just part of the act.

What if you turned around, then looked back and suddenly they were all frozen with knives in their hands

The don't freeze once the knives come out. That's when you run.

I was kidnapped by one of those villages once. Stay safe out there when you're wandering the woods.

Hehehe We also have some of these mini villages here in the woods every now and then. Imagine if you are the ones make this, and already grinning with the idea on how the next passing person will react to this when finding it.

Yep! I am thinking about bringing a few items to spruce it up a bit next time I am there. Maybe something funny and out of place like ninja turtles or something. haha!

Oe! Leaving a couple of theme-liked villages. Ninja turtles village, maybe even a princess village, or an animal village or dino village. Imagine the looks on the kids faces when you do like the villages-of-the-world-tour through the forest. I feel a spring task popping up!

It reminds me a lot of childhood memories.

Here in my city there is a specific day When kids do make such setup with their toys in the streets. And their parents help them to manage it. Even we used to do it in the childhood days. It was fun.

That sounds like a fun tradition! I love things that remind me of my childhood. It was such an innocent time.

Ouuu, maybe fairies do exist and they didn't want you finding them so they hid away.

This is such a beautiful find, I can only imagine who left them there.

Haha, I hope they don't haunt me then. I am always surprised that kids don't wreck these kinds of things. It is nice when people just let stuff like this be in the forest.

They just might hunt you, you did take pictures and exposed them to the world.

I think kids let it be because of how mystical it looks, I doubt it would be left alone in my country though.

This little mini-village reminds me of my girlfriend's mom's garden so much. She has all sorts of cool little miniatures that give her plants so much more personality. Some people find every little way to be creative.

That's pretty cool. My father in law over in England has some cool stuff in his garden as well. I love this sort of thing.

That is really cool! I would have to guess that different people added their own stuff to it as well. Maybe when your son is older and ready to part with some of his toys he can place his own item there. This reminds me of some of those shoe trees you see out and about. Maybe you don't have them there, but we have them here where people bring their old shoes and fling them over the limbs of trees.

Haha, There was something like that in Dayton when I was growing up. But instead of shoes, it was women's bras and panties. It was kind of a joke in the woods behind my grandma's house. They called it 'love rock'. People would supposedly go make out back there and throw their clothes in the tree.

@nuthman Have you ever visited a fairy village a few times, just to make sure they were okay, or just having a cup of coffee together.

This was such a fun post to read.
It's so fascinating that you found this.

There's definitely more exploring to be done 😊, who knows what more you would discover?
I have come to realize that these simple things make for the best of memories.
Thank you for sharing this @nuthman

That is precious - I remember when I was a little boy in summer camp, we used to go to the woods and build similar, though not with brought in stuff, but with whatever we could find right there. In those days, it was common for us boys to carry a small pocket knife, so we also carved figures out of bark, sharpened little sticks to use to pin nuts and cones together to also make figures. Sometimes even our camp councilors got into the act, and I remember a funny episode where they got so involved, they forgot the time to return to the camp for supper. So they made us run all the way to make it on time. We arrived exhausted, but very hungry.

I remember as a kid carrying a pocket knife as well. I don't really remember when that became less common, but it did. Probably with all the laws put into place. I remember going into the woods and finding some kind of stuck or object and start carving on it. It was actually quite relaxing! Now I am thinking that perhaps I should start doing it again.

It sounds like you had a great time in camp as a kid. I wish I had done something like that, although I did enjoy going camping with my aunt and uncle and cousins. We used to go all the time as kids. I remember meeting girls and having weekend 'girlfriends' and new friends that we'd sometimes meet again if we happened to be camping again at the same time. such good memories.

It's always so magical to come upon things like this, funny thing is I often keep a couple little 'characters' or a doll house chair in my pocket and sometimes just make little impromptu 'vignettes' lol, but I take them back with me. This is funny and a cool find @nuthman
