The Prototype

Have you ever wondered how I start creating these cute figurines? The thing is, before I start documenting and sharing it with the world, I try making one- just one and see how things are.

This is what I really enjoy doing- I call it my creation process because, there is no right or wrong thing to do. I can change, scrap or totally stop if I wanted to. I have complete freedom on what I want to do, whenever I want to.

To start this waffle figurine, I used one of my waffle molds- which by this time is nearly ruined due to my cheap clay( I am still very traumatized and resentful!).

The prototype is a bit bigger than the size I intended here. I would have been able to use just a yellow clay but I wanted to show you how to get the color you wanted by using chalk pastels- more on that later.

Here is the shaved chalk pastel. If you will look closer, there are more than 1 color. Well, if you wanted to get the effect- as close as the real thing, then, you need to get the blending right. If the effect looks weak or, the detail is not to your liking, you are free to add more color- I used 3 colors here- yellow, orange, bunt sienna( correct me if I'm wrong).

Since the waffles I see here( yes, I do not eat waffles, I prefer pancakes- so I do not really have experience on the waffle details department) are on the yellowish side.

Get any brush- you can even apply with wetwipes or your own fingers.

I used my clay extractor to get these icing on top of the waffles....

Then I added the details of my cat( yes, they're supposed to be called cats- well, what I think a cat looks like). I don't know why I always make cats without whiskers but, I do. Also, I love pink, blue and white ones.

Just to give you an idea on how big they are.....

The bigger waffle was the prototype and well, the other 4 are all the executions. If you look closer, there are glossy/ not so glossy pieces- I am still on the process of glossing them- with nail polish.
