Carolyn's Cake
Last saturday I woke up thinking that I will have a great day.But I had been told that one of my friends, Carolyn will celebrate her birthday the following day so, I panicked.
This craft had never been planned.I got her some candle but when I was out buying it, I stumbled on these bottle/container and decided to make a novelty out of it.
I started by making the base.
Since this is a paper clay, I knew that it would somehow detach with the cover.I have a super glue stand by.Indeed by the time I was doing the finishing touches on the bear, it detached from the cork stopper.
Make the cakes.
I mixed a bit of copper leaf with white clay but something went wrong...I don't know but I will remake this someday.
Make the bottom part and attach to the base.
I only used water for this. But knowing what I know now, I would have used glue to strengthen the bond.
Make the topper.Off cam, I inserted a match stick to give more stability to the figurine.

The fur effect was done with 2 tools used one after the other.
The party hat was made from this.
I attached it first on the bear before I started making the fine details.
Ideally it takes at least 2-3 days to dry this completely. But because I was rushing, I decided to blow dry the thing and leaving it in a room where the fan was on overnight.
I glazed it with resin.Yes, I did not just coat it, I covered it with resin partly because I know that its an air clay and anytime it will break part.
So the resin is not just for decorative purposes but for bonding purposes too.
Here is how it looks after being glazed.
And here's how it looks inside the box.
And yes, Carolyn loved it ao much!
