SLEEP DEPRIVING...

Yes, it is that time of the month again where I talk myself back into purposeful living. Sometimes it's just funny how our body and mind works against us. Well here is a brief story of how I have been unmotivated for the past two weeks.

Everything looks familiar and boring. I don't mind this at all. I have come to terms with the fact that life can (or should be) boring at most times. We cannot live for the quick and frequent dopamine shots. Sometimes we need to wallow in the finite futility called life.

Boredom can be a sign of a meaningful and fruitful life of routine which can be a good thing for the most part. When you know what you need to do every day to actualize your long and short time goals without taking unnecessary risks, there is no need to worry.

However, I have been worried lately, about a lot of things. I have an active restless mind that has been conditioned to want certainty, which necessitates going through the motion of making sure everything is well thought out.

Unfortunately, my life is grossly uncertain. My major source of income comes from my daily creative endeavour, which can be rewarded or ignored, I don't control this aspect of my life. As much as I enjoy the creative process, I don't want to write for a living--or anything in particular.

I know it's asking for too much but I would like financial life to be a lot more certain than it is right now. I don't want to live by the whips and caprices of the crypto market (or curators). I would rather have my mind focused on other important things like adding value to other people's values.

I don't want to have to worry about myself. It is getting old and probably the one thing I have been doing for most of my life. I don't want to worry about having things. It is just stupid to me but I guess this is life for the most part.

Well, to be very honest, I think the real cause of my lack of motivation has been my irregular sleeping pattern. It is strange how things like sleep and proper diet can impact our moods.

Our sleep-wake cycle is determined by our circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock. Like old-time clocks, this internal clock needs to be reset every day and is adjusted by first exposure to light in the morning.

An irregular circadian rhythm can have a negative effect on a person’s ability to sleep and function properly, and can result in several health problems, including mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder.

For instance, most times when I feel tired and unmotivated, it is the result of basic things like sleep and proper nutrition. Last night I slept quite early (11 p.mish) and I woke up willing to write something without the feeling of tiredness hanging over my head.

My point is, some (or even most of) of our problems are physiological, not psychological. This is why we must take care of our bodies. It is funny how many of us do not understand the physiological impact of our daily routine.

When Jordan Peterson talks about making your bed every morning to give one a sense of control over their lives many refute the idea, tagging it as a basic solution to more complex life. However, life is fundamentally basic.

So basically, all (or most) of the problems I listed earlier in this post are a result of my irregular sleeping pattern. I have known this for the past two weeks, but getting myself to do a basic thing like going to bed early, has been an onerous task.

Also, I have discovered that I am more of a morning person and all my creative work is best done in the morning and that that sets the tone of the type of day I have. If I don't get the most important tasks done in the morning, it is almost impossible to get them done during the other part of the day.

So now you know a thing or two about me. I will leave you (my readers) with a few questions:

  • How do you think your lifestyle affects your life and what do you think you can do better physically to improve your mental state?

  • How many hours of sleep do you get on a regular day? And do you think it is important that you get enough sleep?

Thanks for reading. If you do enjoy reading this post, a reblog will be awesome! Thank you.

I love it when I can sleep 8 hours straight, but always something happens to bother me in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's mosquitoes or sometimes construction nearby or smoke... I am sometimes sensitive. The most important thing is not to look at your phone messages when you wake up at 2am. Don't even pick up the phone. Just go to the bathroom, drink some water and then do some exercise. The final exercise for me is the breathing exercise. Basically I let out all the air I have and hold my breath for 10-20 seconds... after a couple rounds I am out.

i cant remember the last time I had one of those...the best I can do these days is 6 hours

Ignorant of me to think that mosquitoes were a Nigerian thing.

My phone happens to be my biggest enemy. every time I want to sleep I end up binging on tiktok content. Although educative, it still cuts out from my sleep time. I will try your technique out though. Thanks for the tip

My wife follows a similar pattern. When she gets to bed, she turns on her phone and watches videos or the Winchester Brothers from Supernatural. She has a thing for hot men battling evil.

Went off-track there, I'm not doing to well in the sleep department myself. I think I'll try @mineopoly's holistic approach to breathing like a normal human.

Sleep is important because it helpss the body to get ready for the next day and if the sleep is deprived of there's no assurance of being productive the next day because the body will be dormant.
I need more sleep that will be my answer to improve my mental state.
I'd advise you sleep more because sleep is important .
