Sometimes, You Just Need to Step Out

In this part of my world, weekends are known for owambe, meaning party time. It could be a child dedication party, a wedding, a traditional marriage, a survival party, cultural events, and many more.

Being a social person, I am always looking forward to invitations because I love social events. However, I have been in a bad mood since Friday. A lot of things are fighting my happiness, and I am striving to stay happy, although it hasn't been easy.

The more I strive to remain positive, the more things unfold in a way that makes me feel depressed. Attending church today was a struggle, but I won at the end of the struggle as my family and I attended church service this morning, and the priest preached as if he were in my home, seeing all the happenings. His topic was Don't give up; despite failing several times, we should stay focused and keep trying. I felt relieved hearing so many words of encouragement from the priest this morning, but coming home, I met another happening that made me so sad, and all I did was overthink myself.

Not quite long after, my friend called and said that I should prepare for the child dedication party, but unlike me, I declined. I was in a bad state of mind to attend the party. But she persisted until I gave in.

Now I am happy I attended the party; I felt relieved. I mixed with others, danced, ate, and wined together. I forgot my worries at least for some time and felt better. There was a time for kids' dance games, and I saw how talented some children are. very beautiful to behold dance session by the kids. They had lots of cash gifts in the process and the little cash gift motivated them to keep entertaining the adults.

A day out has proven to help me calm my nerves, especially when I feel overwhelmed, and I'm glad my friend dragged me out this evening. It was an exciting event even though I couldn't capture the moments as I usually do.
